I won’t lie, I didn’t know South Korea bought the Philly Shipyard. I am TLL’s Geopolitical Expert, but my focus has mostly been in hot conflict zones like Ukraine and Gaza, as well as soft power operations like China’s sex warfare campaign against America’s tech elites.
Naval supremacy has been a blind spot of mine, so first, let me apologize for not being on this story sooner. It won’t happen again.
While the President is breaking with tradition, it comes at a considerable price for South Korea. The cost of the submarine project itself is unclear, but it is one of many high-priced investments in the US shipbuilding industry from Seoul.
Combine that with other investments and purchases, and we’re talking hundreds of billions of dollars pledged from South Korea just this year. Talk about the Art of the Deal.
Sure, this comes with reduced tariffs for South Korean exports headed stateside, but hey, if you come to the table and play ball, you get rewarded.
