Hackers take control of robot vacuums across America, wreak havoc immediately

We bring you a terrifying story from the robot home appliance world. Hackers allegedly took over several robot vacuums across America and used them to cause general chaos for homeowners and their pets alike.

These hackers programmed the vacuums to scream insults and racial slurs as well as chase pets around the house:

Minnesota lawyer Daniel Swenson had an unexpected evening when his vacuum suddenly rolled into the living room and started shouting insults in front of his family. Swenson said the voice sounded like a teenager, which made the whole thing even more unsettling.

These vacuums have built-in cameras and remote access features, raising the possibility that someone hacked into the device. Over in Los Angeles, another owner said their dog was chased around the house by a runaway vacuum on the same day, adding a strange twist to an already bizarre story.

This hits particularly close to home for me as the owner of a robot vacuum. My guy Alfred has been in my life for around a year and half now, and I couldn’t imagine what would happen if he turned heel.

While I named him Alfred, this particular model only speaks in a woman’s voice, which has admittedly gotten me into trouble with one of my exes when we were together. The vacuum gave me some kind of update while I was on a phone call, and she overheard it and went, “What bitch do you have in your apartment?”

Fortunately for her, I did not have a bitch in my apartment. It was just my vacuum informing me that the dustbin

Unfortunately for me, that realization allowed the relationship to continue. I’m not saying I wish I was cheating on her, but I do wish that she thought I was so she would’ve broken up with me on the spot. I’m not one to disparage my exes in a public forum, but this one in particular was a real pain in my ass.

At any rate, I pray Alfred isn’t coopted by any of these dark web assassins. I enjoy my peaceful life with my friendly robot. I’d hate for him to start calling me racial slurs.

There is also the chance that these robot vacuums are just becoming sentient and were not hacked at all. Kind of weird that they’d end up being racist, but I suppose anything is possible in the age of AI.
