Disaster Class: AJ Brown’s route tree data points to a major Eagles offensive problem
The Philadelphia Eagles are 7-2, coming off a huge win against the Green Bay Packers on the road. They are about to host Detroit on Sunday night with the top seed in the NFC on the line. Needless to say, it should be all vibes right now in Philadelphia.
Instead, the internet is melting down over a one minute Twitch clip of AJ Brown getting worked in Madden. Shocking. Absolutely shocking. The football world choosing drama over actual football. Who could have predicted it?!
We are not doing that here. The conversation is already dumb enough. Let’s actually talk about the real issue AJ has been hinting at.
Spoiler alert. AJ Brown is right.
AJ Brown is frustrated because the Eagles offense is a problem. Not a minor one. A structural one and all the route data backs him up.
AJ Brown breaks it down
Asked about coverage shifting toward him and that freeing up other #Eagles receivers in comparison to other top receivers in the NFL, who still see high volume in targets and catches, Brown said:

“If you got eyes, you can see that. It’s not about what those other guys get. And…
According to TruMedia, AJ Brown has run only 14 crossing routes this entire season. One hundred and thirty seven receivers across the league have run more. He has been used on only 26 in-breaking routes. That ranks forty fifth among all pass catchers.
This is absurd. AJ Brown is one of the most dominant in-breaking route runners on the planet. He is a slant monster. A dig machine. A yards after catch truck that punishes defenses the second he gets across the field with a head of steam.
The Eagles have one of the best weapons in football and they are calling routes for him like he is some random depth chart body. It is offensive malpractice.
And before anyone tries to pin this all on Jalen Hurts, let me stop you right there. You cannot throw a ball to a player who is not running the routes he thrives on. The problem starts with what Nick Sirianni and Kevin Patullo are asking him to run.
When AJ feels clouded, the ball swings to DeVonta Smith. That is great. DeVonta has been fantastic. But it does not change the fact that the coaching staff has taken their alpha wideout and handcuffed him week after week with a neutered route tree.
You want to know why AJ Brown is annoyed. This is why.
AJ Brown was never the villain here
People love to twist his words. They love to accuse him of being a distraction. They love to say he is complaining too much.
Here is the truth. He is not complaining. He is telling you the problem. He knows what he can do. He knows what this offense used to be. And he knows that if the Eagles want to repeat as champions, they need to stop treating him like a decoy and start treating him like AJ freakin Brown.
He has every reason to be frustrated. And the frightening part is that he is holding back. If he really dropped the full truth on this offense, the clip would be a whole lot louder than a “sh*t show” joke during a Madden beating.
The coaching staff needs to fix this. Immediately.
Get AJ Brown the routes he dominates. Get him the ball. Open the offense back up. Do that, and the Eagles stop surviving games and start burying teams again.
And the longer they wait, the more frustrated their superstar wideout gets. The numbers do not lie. The problem is real. The solution is obvious.
Just give the man the football.
