South Carolina Texas A&M State Trooper

Texas A&M Trooper squares up on injured South Carolina player, somehow ends up more embarrassing than the Aggies’ first half

Only in college football could you get an 80 yard touchdown, a potentially serious injury, and a state trooper trying to pick a fight with a hobbling player all within the span of two minutes. And yes, it was exactly as stupid as it sounds.

The scene unfolded after South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor took a slant to the house and put the Gamecocks up 27-3 late in the first half against Texas A&M.

South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor to the house

Harbor clearly pulled something on the play and was struggling to walk, heading into the tunnel with trainers at his side. It should have been a moment where everyone minds their business and lets an injured player get checked out.

Instead, a Texas A&M state trooper decided he was the main character.

As Harbor and his South Carolina teammates walked back onto the field, they brushed past the trooper. A minor bump. Nothing unusual. Happens every single Saturday in stadiums across the country. But this genius decided that was his moment. He pointed at Harbor, stepped toward him, and looked like he was ready to throw hands with a limping 20-year-old.

Thankfully, Harbor’s teammates had far more professionalism than the guy with the badge. They pulled Harbor away and prevented the moment from turning into a full-on confrontation. But the internet had already seen enough to crown this trooper the clown of the week.

Even LeBron James jumped in to roast him, and when LeBron is cooking a Texas A&M state trooper on Twitter, you know you have spiraled into maximum cornball territory.

Trooper Removed From Sideline After the Internet Melted Him

According to ESPN’s Dave Wilson, the trooper was relieved of his game-day duties and sent home. The Texas Department of Public Safety released a very serious, very official statement saying their Office of Inspector General will “look further into the matter,” which is corporate-speak for:

“Yeah, we saw the video too. We are also confused why our guy tried to fight an injured kid. Please stop tagging us.”

Here’s the actual statement, for formality:

“The DPS Trooper involved was sent home from the game. Our Office of Inspector General (OIG) is also aware of the incident and will be further looking into the matter. No additional information will be released at this time.”

Dude is lucky all he lost was his sideline pass.

And After All That, Texas A&M Somehow Came Back and Won

The Aggies looked cooked at halftime, down 30-3 and getting booed in their own barn. Then they stormed back and outscored South Carolina 28-0 after the break, winning 31-30 in one of the wildest comebacks of the season.

But no one was talking about the game afterward. They were talking about the trooper who tried to go full Walker, Texas Ranger on a kid who could barely stand.

If your job is to help keep the peace at a football game and you end up trying to posture against a limping student athlete, you are not protecting anyone. You are embarrassing yourself, your department and everyone who has ever worn that uniform with pride.
