WATCH: Stephen A. Smith picks Cowboys to beat Eagles because he wants Dallas to fall off a roof, not a curb
Stephen A. Smith on “First Take” with known-bozo Cam Newton and the worst person in the world, Ryan Clark picked the Dallas Cowboys to beat the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. It sounds bad, because it is.
Stephen A. Smith picks the Cowboys to beat the Eagles
I guess we can credit Stephen A. Smith for adding a quick statement that he wants the Cowboys to fall off a roof, rather than a curb, meaning that he wants Dallas to have hope before the Eagles inevitably rip their hopes, dreams, and souls from their lifeless bodies later this season.
But still, it’s a lousy pick. I will go ahead and attempt to rationalize the insanity.
We should start with the fact that Dak Prescott, when healthy and starting for the Cowboys at home, hasn’t lost a game to an NFC East opponent inside Jerry’s World since November 19, 2017. That loss was to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fine. Whatever.
I must admit it’s a very cute stat but here at The Liberty Line, we are looking alter NFL history on Sunday with our friends at Phans of Philly.
The Liberty Line on the road with Phans of Philly:
- 2022: Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals (Win)
- 2023: Philadelphia Eagles at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Win)
- 2023: Philadelphia Eagles at Los Angeles Rams (Win)
- 2023: Philadelphia Eagles at Kansas City Chiefs (Win)
- 2024: Philadelphia Eagles at New Orleans Saints (Win)
- 2024: Philadelphia Eagles at Los Angeles Rams (Win)
- 2025: Philadelphia Eagles at Green Bay Packers (Win)
- 2025: Philadelphia Eagles at Dallas Cowboys (TBD)
Here’s why things will change on Sunday…
The Philadelphia Eagles keep stacking wins. They also keep making everyone’s blood pressure spike, but hey… 8-2 sure does look great on paper, right?
If you only checked the standings and not your sanity, you might think the defending champs are cruising. In reality, the Eagles’ offense has been running like a train that’s barely hanging on to the tracks.
Jalen Hurts has been steady but rarely spectacular. AJ Brown has been frustrated and quiet. Even DeVonta Smith is coming off his smallest game in over a year. All of that is happening while Saquon Barkley is averaging two fewer yards per carry than he did last season.
So yeah, the offense has weapons and all the talent in the world, but they won’t do this fanbase any favors and actually prove that with any type of consistency.
Say Hello to the Eagles’ ELITE Defense
Defense wins championships, right? I know how easy it is to shift gears right now and focus on the positive while secretly hoping Hurts and Co. figure shit out sooner than later, so we’ll do that too.
Jaelan Phillips and the deadline reinforcements have transformed the Birds into a chokehold machine. Detroit found out the hard way and Green Bay got smothered before that.
Point being, the Eagles are winning knife fights. Now it is Dallas week and we are talking about a Cowboys team in full desperation mode.
The Cowboys are two fourth quarter meltdowns and one Jerry Jones presser away from setting their stadium on fire. They are 4-5-1 and clinging to playoff hopes like Dak Prescott clings to comeback narratives.
I was going to make a claim that their win over the Raiders does not count because the Raiders quit on life weeks ago but even that would take too much effort to describe how “meh” the Cowboys have been this year.
Dak has been good. CeeDee Lamb has been good. George Pickens has been very good. Javonte Williams is having a comeback season that nobody outside of Dallas cares about, but the Cowboys defense is a complete disaster, giving up explosive plays on the regular to any offense who can execute.
Key Word: Execute.
The Eagles took Round One back in Week 1. Jalen Hurts scored twice on the ground. The Eagles defense smothered Dak despite Jalen Carter being ejected for spitting on him. Doesn’t that feel like a lifetime ago?
Now we have arrived to Round 2.
A lot of fans will tell you this game isn’t important. As usual, they are wrong. This game is very important and both teams need a win for very different reasons.
Again, we all know that the Birds sit on top of the NFC with an 8-2 record and a 99 percent chance to make the playoffs. A loss barely moves the needle but I think everyone would love to see a few signs of life from the offense, especially when it’s against a shitty Dallas defense on the road in Kelly Greens
Make a statement. Spread the ball around, and put some points on the board. Dallas is on life support. Their playoff chances are a sad little six percent. A win gets them to eleven. A loss drops them to three and ends the conversation.
Eagles at Cowboys: Birds continue to win ugly while Dallas is dying loudly
End them on Sunday. While I like Stephen A. Smith painting a picture that the Cowboys are better off falling off a roof than the curb, I don’t even care at this point. It’s our time to ruin them and break a few trends in the process.
I want to witness it with my own eyes inside Jerry’s World on Sunday, surrounded by THOUSANDS of Eagles fans who have made the pilgrimage to Texas with Phans of Philly.
It’s time.
