DeSean Jackson says AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts drama about ‘more than just football’
Former Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson shed some light on the issues between Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown on a recent podcast appearance.
DeSean Jackson confirmed what a lot of people assumed about how AJ Brown feels towards his QB:

“It’s something else going on. I got a great relationship with [AJ]. I respect him. I can’t say it. But I know it’s something else going on. It’s not all about football. It’s not all about Xs and Os. I’ve had ‘situationships’ with quarterbacks I didn’t necessarily like. And when it ain’t there, it sticks out like a sore thumb. That’s all I’m gonna say.”
I’ve gotta say, I love DJax saying “I can’t say it” and then immediately saying it. Obviously, he didn’t divulge any details, but he confirmed what we all pretty much know at this point: AJ Brown and Jalen Hurts are not cool like that.
And, honestly? I get it. These guys have been best friends since they met on a college recruiting visit. Hurts is the godfather to Brown’s daughter Jersee and lobbied the Eagles front office to bring him to Philly in the first place.
The key component here is: these guys became friends while never playing together on the same team. When you get into the pressure cooker of the NFL, where everyone wants to win so damn bad, relationships can easily end up strained. Especially between a QB and his star receiver.
Plus, you have to factor in Jalen Hurts’ total personality flip. Sure, he’s always been a serious guy, but ever since he lost to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, that’s kicked into a whole other gear.
That’s not a knock on him; it’s gotten this team a championship, but he’s not the guy AJ Brown became boys with all those years ago. Just look at the two of them FaceTiming after the Eagles acquired Brown. Do you really think Jalen Hurts would act this excited about anything anymore?

So you have two best friends working together for the first time in a high-pressure league in two marquee positions in the league. Throw in struggles on offense year after year, and one of the guys turning into a robot that speaks in fortune cookie riddles.
It’s like your one buddy from college who was an absolutely wild man. Great hang, nobody you’d rather crush beers with. Next thing you know, he’s married with two kids and won’t even crack dick jokes with you anymore. Oh, yeah, and you work together too.
Could AJ Brown keep his discontent more private? Sure. But that doesn’t mean I don’t understand where he’s coming from here.
