Joel Embiid Fined Injury Reporting Violation

THTP: NBA Deep State fines Sixers $100,000 for a Joel Embiid meaningless injury report violation

Adam Silver hates Joel Embiid and The Process. Everyone knows that already, so when the NBA decided to make an example out of the Philadelphia 76ers again by issuing out another meaningless fine, all you can really do is laugh.

The league announced Tuesday that the Sixers have been fined $100,000 for violating injury reporting rules related to Joel Embiid, who was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Hawks, upgraded to questionable in the afternoon, and then played 30 minutes in a double-overtime loss that night.

The league’s statement said the Sixers “failed to accurately disclose” Embiid’s availability and that the penalty reflects their “prior history” of similar violations.

Give me a fucking break already, Adam Silver

In other words, the NBA is treating Philadelphia like repeat offenders because they have found themselves in this situation before. Whether that is fair or ridiculous depends on how generous you feel toward Adam Silver’s office at the moment.

Embiid also sat out again on Tuesday night in the Sixers’ win over the Wizards as he continues to work his way back from the right knee issue that kept him out for nine straight games.

The Sixers now have a day off before a back-to-back that includes Golden State on Thursday and Milwaukee on Friday. That immediately raises the obvious question.

What happens next with Embiid’s availability, and is the league going to keep acting like the Sixers are masterminding some injury-reporting conspiracy instead of navigating the schedule with a superstar who is clearly not at full strength?

We will see how the Sixers play it. For now, they are down $100,000 because Joel Embiid went from “out” to “actually playing basketball.”

The NBA’s policing of injury reports continues to feel more like PR theater than meaningful oversight, but that is the world we are living in.
