Kevin Patullo shrugs off egg incident, loves Philly, and I hate how much I like him
Kevin Patullo stepped up to the mic on Wednesday and did something a lot of people in this city refuse to do by handling a bad situation like an adult.
After the Eagles’ Black Friday disaster against the Bears, a few idiots decided the appropriate response was to drive to Patullo’s house in New Jersey and egg it.
These idiots actually went to his private residence and vandalized his home at 2 AM. Police confirmed it happened and now Kevin Patullo confirmed it happened and sat behind a podium to field questions about a bunch of clowns throwing breakfast food at his windows. Lovely.
Kevin Patullo addressed his home being vandalized after the Bears loss
Kevin Patullo said exactly what needed to be said. Criticism comes with the job. He knows the offense has been brutal. He knows fans are frustrated. He knows they expect better. Involving someone’s wife and kids crosses the line.
It does not make you tough. It does not make you passionate. It does not make you a real fan. It makes you a loser who should probably be banned from Lincoln Financial Field for life.
Here is the part that really drives home the reality of the situation.
Kevin Patullo did not bury the city. He did not complain about Philadelphia. He did not even sound rattled. He talked about how much he loves coaching here, how unique the environment is, and how much support his family received from neighbors and normal human beings who are not emotionally unstable.
He even called it an unfortunate incident and moved on. That is more grace than most would show after finding yolk dripping down their front door because the Eagles could not run a basic slant route correctly for three straight weeks.
The criticism of Kevin Patullo as a coach is fair.
The Eagles have the most expensive offense in football and somehow look like they are piloting a go-kart powered by AA batteries. They are 19th in scoring and 24th in yards.
With this roster, that should be a fireable offense by itself. Nobody is arguing that Patullo has been good at his job.
Vandalizing the man’s house because of it is insanity. Feel free to boo him, call for him to be fired, maybe write a few angry blogs, whatever you gotta do. That is all part of the deal. Taking it to his home puts you psycho category.
Nobody respects that person and nobody wants that person representing this fanbase.
The Eagles need to fix their offense. Patullo needs to figure out how to call a football game but the man deserved better than waking up to scrambled eggs on his siding.
None of that matters anymore. For the love of God, beat the Chargers so we do not have to read another police report next Monday.
