Colts fans are turning on Shane Steichen — Philadelphia would welcome him back instantly
Indianapolis Colts fans aren’t exactly known for jumping the gun on coaches or players, but it sure feels like they’re already fed up with Shane Steichen — despite the fact he’s been handed nothing but average to below-average quarterbacks his entire tenure.
After Indy’s loss to Jacksonville on Sunday — paired with Daniel Jones going down for the year — these tweets are popping up everywhere, and they’re all starting to sound the same.
Colts fans are calling for Shane Steichen’s job. We’ll gladly take him back
Steichen is the last guy I’d blame for the Colts skid, but what do I know?
Since the start of November, the Colts are 1-4. After opening 7-1 and watching Daniel Jones play the best football of his life, Indy has gone into a full-on tailspin. From the outside, it’s pretty easy to see why.
Jones came crashing back down to Earth. Since November began, he’s thrown six touchdowns and five interceptions while completing 63.9% of his passes. Jonathan Taylor has dipped right alongside him — just one 100-yard rushing day since Nov. 1, and that came in their lone win, a 32-25 overtime victory over Atlanta where he went for 244 yards. Remove that explosion from the equation and Taylor’s averaging just 3.5 yards per carry — a far cry from what he was early in the year.

Indy’s problems are obvious: Jones isn’t their savior, no matter how hard people tried selling it in September and October.
And honestly, that was clear from the jump. Anyone who convinced themselves he magically turned into a franchise quarterback overnight was just lying to themselves.
So if Indy wants a scapegoat and decides to dump Steichen, be my guest. I’d take him in a heartbeat — hell, I’d probably fire Nick Sirianni and hand Steichen the headset on the spot.
