AJ Brown accepts full accountability after crucial drops doom Eagles in overtime loss to Chargers
The Eagles fell to 8-5 after dropping their third straight game, a 22 to 19 overtime loss to the Chargers on Monday Night Football. While plenty went wrong, AJ Brown made sure everyone knew he’s putting this one on himself.
Brown finished with 6 catches for 100 yards, his third straight game over the century mark, but the production didn’t soften the blow from three massive missed opportunities. He stood in front of reporters postgame and owned every bit of it.
“That one hurt,” Brown said. “I’m more than capable of making those plays. Jalen trusts me in any situation. I made some plays but I wasn’t great when it mattered.”
AJ Brown drops that changed the game:
1. First play of the game: Hurts extended the play, scrambled, and uncorked a deep ball down the sideline. It hit Brown’s hands. Brown didn’t bring it in.
2. Fourth quarter meltdown: A routine catch turned into disaster when the ball bounced off Brown’s hands and straight to Chargers DB Cam Hart. That interception became the game-tying field goal.
3. Overtime opportunity: Hurts gave Brown his signature moment on a deep shot to the end zone on 3rd and 4. Brown couldn’t haul it in.
AJ Brown: “That’s what I hang my hat on… I want that pressure. I want the ball when the game’s on the line.”

Nick Sirianni said it himself that AJ Brown’s performance on Monday night in Los Angeles was “uncharacteristic” and obviously, it’s hard to argue against it. Brown doesn’t drop passes, let alone multiple ones in the biggest moments of the game, in one night.
At the end of the day, you win together and you lose together so it is what it is. I actually thought the Eagles’ offense looked fantastic, which is crazy to say considering how many times they turned the ball over.
I mean hell, Jalen Hurts had five turnovers of his own. He finished with 21 of 40 passing for 240 yards, zero touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 31.2 passer rating. He also had eight rushing yards and a lost fumble.
Not a single team in the NFL is winning football games doing that.
Before anyone even utters Tanner McKee’s name, just stop.
Jalen Hurts is the quarterback whether you like it or not. He’s the franchise. We ride with him until the wheels fall off, even if those wheels are actively rolling off the axle on national TV.
Jalen Hurts makes NFL history in the worst way possible during sloppy MNF game
Speaking of Jalen Hurts, who again, threw a career-high four interceptions, didn’t hesitate to defend his WR1 while also acknowledging the obvious.
“I know there are definitely some plays he wants back,” Hurts said. “There’s some we all want back.”
Hurts’ third interception of the night was the one that bounced off Brown’s hands, and Brown took responsibility for that directly. It mattered. A lot.
The Eagles’ offense as a whole continued to spiral despite Saquon Barkley rushing for over 100 yards for just the second time all season. Turbulent play, bad turnovers, and untimely drops overshadowed another strong night from the defense, which racked up seven sacks and forced three takeaways.
It’s going to be a long week. Philly Sports Talk radio is going to be the pits of hell and I really have no time for it. For the Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and the Eagles, the only way forward is through.
The Eagles now face a stretch run that includes the Raiders, Commanders twice, and Bills. The margin for error is gone. The positivity rabbit didn’t save them. It’s time for execution.
If the Eagles want to stop the bleeding, their best players have to deliver in the biggest moments. Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown know that.
The Eagles are 8-5 with four games left in the regular season.
- Week 15 vs. Raiders at 1 p.m.
- Week 16 at Commanders at 5 p.m.
- Week 17 at Bills at 4:25 p.m.
- Week 18 vs. Commanders, time TBD
The Good News? The magic number to win the NFC East stays at three.
If the Eagles cannot beat the listless Raiders next week at home, it will be fair to question whether they should bother showing up for the final three.
The defense showed real fight. The offense once again did not. And the team that entered the year as a Super Bowl contender is now clinging to division hopes and desperately searching for answers.
