Phillies extend Rob Thomson through 2027
While everyone was still buzzing about Kyle Schwarber locking in a five-year, $150 million deal to finish his career in Philadelphia, the Phillies slid another piece of expected business across the table by officially extending Rob Thomson through 2027.

Kyle Schwarber returns to Phillies on 5-year mega-deal
The timing was a coincidence, the outcome was not. Schwarber was always coming back, and Thomson was always getting his extension. This was the worst-kept secret of the offseason.
Dave Dombrowski basically told us in October that Thomson wasn’t going anywhere. He doubled down again at the Winter Meetings.
There’s always room for criticism but there’s really no denying that Rob Thomson, now 62, has quietly become one of the most successful managers in the franchise’s 140-year history.
Rob Thomson owns the second-most wins in Phillies history (346) and the second-best winning percentage (.580). Since taking over for Joe Girardi on June 3, 2022, the Phillies have made the postseason every single year and wrapped up back-to-back NL East titles.
Oh yeah, and they won the National League in 2022.
He is also one of only four managers in MLB history, joining Dave Roberts, Aaron Boone, and Mike Matheny, to reach the postseason in each of his first four seasons.
Among Phillies managers, only Rob Thomson, Charlie Manuel, and Danny Ozark have ever won consecutive division titles.
Rob Thomson wins. The players believe in him.
The front office believes in him. And now he’s locked in through 2027, right where he belongs. The Phillies brought back Schwarber. They locked up their manager. The foundation is set.
Time to hit the NPB market.
