Kyle Schwarber returns to Phillies on 5-year mega-deal
Kyle Schwarber isn’t going anywhere. Despite immense interest from a number of ball clubs, the slugger inked a 5-year $150 million deal to return to Philadelphia, per Jeff Passan of ESPN.
Kyle Schwarber’s contract is a record AAV for a DH at $30 million, but the Phillies weren’t letting him sign elsewhere
News: Kyle Schwarber is coming back to Philadelphia, agreeing to a five-year, $150 million contract that gives the Phillies a much-needed power boost and should pave the way for more free agent signings in the coming weeks. All the details, free at ESPN: https://t.co/bdSF1J5atG

None of the typical impediments — whether age (33 on Opening Day) or position (DH) — got in the way of Kyle Schwarber landing a half-decade-long contract at a record AAV for a DH ($30 million). Teams lined up to pay for what Schwarber does on the field and off. A mega-deal.

I think I speak for all Phillies fans when I say THANK GOD. We all knew losing Schwarber was a possibility, but as Passan said, age and position were not a deterrent for the Phillies to get a deal done.
The Pirates made an offer. The Reds rolled out the red carpet for him (no pun intended). And pretty much every contender at least considered throwing the bag at him. When you look at the numbers, it’s hard not to see why.
Kyle Schwarber’s 2025 season was arguably a career year: he played all 162 games for the Phillies, slashing .240/.365/.563 with 56 home runs and 132 RBIs, while scoring 111 runs. That was good enough to put him second in NL MVP voting behind the one and only Shohei Ohtani.
Last year wasn’t some anomaly, either. Schwarber has been dominant since signing with the Phillies. Kyle Schwarber has hit .226 with 528 hits, 187 home runs, 434 RBIs, and 429 runs scored in 627 regular-season games for the Fightins.
Resigning Schwarber also allows the Phillies to move forward with the remainder of their offseason plans. Plus, this comes after an announcement that he’ll be playing in the World Baseball Classic. I love to see a Phillies repping the Red, White, and Blue.
