Caitlin Clark

A’ja Wilson comes off as jealous of Caitlin Clark with latest bizarre comments about her “erasing WNBA history”

Sorry, Caitlin Clark. Here we go again. Let’s get something straight. A’ja Wilson is a basketball legend. She is a four time MVP, a three time WNBA champion, a Finals MVP, and now Time Magazine’s Athlete of the Year.

Her resume is ridiculous and nobody with a functioning brain disputes that, but she decided to take an odd swipe at Caitlin Clark in a new Time interview, claiming the hype around Clark has “erased” WNBA history.

Here is the problem. Caitlin Clark did not erase anything. She brought more attention to women’s basketball than anyone in the modern era. That is just the truth.

A’ja Wilson on Caitlin Clark and the WNBA

Caitlin Clark has been in the WNBA for basically two seasons and her fanbase is enormous. Her games sell out every arena she walks into. TV ratings spike every time she appears on a broadcast.

Meanwhile, Wilson, as great as she is on the court, does not create the same level of mainstream buzz or cultural impact. That is not disrespect. That is reality.

Wilson said, “It was more so, let’s not lose the recipe. Let’s not lose the history. It was erased for a minute. And I don’t like that.”

Cool, I guess, but maybe the league should be grateful for the person who brought millions of new eyeballs to the sport instead of acting offended by her popularity.

No Clark, No WNBA

No Caitlin Clark, no spike in ratings. No Caitlin Clark, no sold out arenas. No Caitlin Clark, no nationwide conversation about the WNBA, salaries, expansion, visibility, or any of the momentum the league suddenly has. A rising tide lifts all boats and Clark is the tide here. She is not erasing anything. She is elevating everyone.

A’ja Wilson has benefited from the attention just as much as anyone else. The entire league has. You can recognize that reality without pretending history has been wiped off the map.

I still have no idea why Wilson decided to take this angle. I do not get it. When is everyone going to figure it out. Caitlin Clark is not the enemy here. The WNBA keeps acting like the person saving the league is somehow the threat. It makes no sense.

If anything, the real problem is how quickly players scramble to be offended every time Caitlin Clark gets attention. Stop fighting the spotlight and embrace it. The league has never been bigger. That did not happen by accident.
