Philly Sports Talk Radio is broken and 94.1 WIP is dragging everyone down with it

The current state of Philadelphia sports media, specifically 94.1 WIP, has dragged this city into some of the darkest timelines imaginable. The coverage is corrupted. The narratives are engineered. The people are exhausted.

Every single day, fans wake up and get force fed corporate agendas from outsiders and self appointed “authorities” who pretend to speak for Philadelphia while never actually listening to it. The disconnect between the voices on air and the people in the streets has never been wider.

Nothing sums it up better than what has happened to the Philadelphia Eagles. The national media has a stranglehold on the engagement farm. They cannot stop screaming about Jalen Hurts and the offensive struggles.

Heavy is the head, I suppose.

The problem is that the national guys now use Philly Sports Talk Radio hosts as the source of truth. They genuinely believe fans care what Joe Giglio and Tommy Kelly from 94.1 WIP say on that godforsaken radio station.

It is disgusting and the entire city is reaching a boiling point.

Peter Schrager went on TV and called 94.1 WIP the “voice of authority” in Philadelphia.

That tells you everything you need to know about the national perspective.

This is what happens when people outside the city try to talk about people inside the city. Schrager and the rest of the guys in that clip are fine, but they are speaking on something they know absolutely nothing about.

No one in Philadelphia sees 94.1 WIP as an authority. If anything, WIP is the opposite. They could not be further from the pulse of the fanbase.

They rely on rage bait, emotional manipulation, and a rotating cast of the same 30 callers who dial in every day to scream into the void.

WIP does not represent Philadelphia.

WIP misrepresents Philadelphia and they do it willingly.

So naturally, Joe Giglio became a national punchline this week. ESPN played a clip of him trashing Jalen Hurts and openly mocked him on air. It was embarrassing for him and embarrassing for anyone still pretending that WIP reflects how people actually think in this city.

Joe Giglio is a cancer to the conversation. He stands on nothing.

He spews nonsense every single day. No one likes him and no one respects him. He is yet another product of the Howard Eskin media factory that has poisoned the discourse around every team we love.

And then there is Tommy Kelly. A loser in every possible sense of the word.

I called his show back in 2022 after Rhys Hoskins hit the three run nuke that powered the Phillies past the Braves and gave them a 2-1 series lead in the NLDS.

First time I ever randomly called a show. The Phillies were in the postseason for the first time in over a decade, Citizens Bank Park was on fire, and this guy would not shut up about a ground ball that got past Hoskins in Game 2.

The man does not speak for anyone. Ever.

I also posted a few of the tweets from that night. The point is simple. The national media claiming that WIP represents Philadelphia is an insult to every actual fan in this city.

They never have been. And the more the national media continues to hold them up as the measuring stick, the easier it becomes to understand how far removed the outside world is from the truth about this city.

Philadelphia carries itself with pride. WIP carries itself with panic. There is a difference. Anyone who has ever sat in the stands, walked Broad Street, or lived through the highs and lows of this city can see it clearly.

The rest of the country can keep listening to WIP. Philadelphia will not.
