Jalen Hurts delivers the most efficient game of his career after Eagles finally add long-awaited offensive wrinkle
Based on EPA per play, Eagles QB Jalen Hurts just turned in the most efficient passing performance of his career.
He finished 12-for-15 for 175 yards and three touchdowns. Yes, it came against the Raiders, and yes, that matters. But that’s not the real story here.
The real story is that the Eagles finally introduced a pretty drastic wrinkle into the passing game, one fans have been begging for since Week 1.
On Sunday, the Birds ran their lowest rate of hitch routes all season. More importantly, they ran their highest rate of crossing routes, something Kevin Patullo has inexplicably refused to do until now. And wouldn’t you know it, the offense looked efficient, on schedule, and actually functional.
The “Jalen Hurts can’t throw over the middle” narrative must die
Here, we have undeniable proof that Jalen Hurts can, in fact, throw a football over the middle of the field.
That narrative was dead on arrival, yet somehow still wormed its way into the public consciousness — mostly because Kevin Patullo simply refused to call those types of plays. Obviously, Hurts was and is fully capable of operating in an offense that asks him to throw between the numbers. It was always bullshit.
As for Patullo, I guess better late than never. Still, how does an NFL offensive coordinator take this long to figure out something fans have been calling for for months? It doesn’t make sense, but whatever.
The Eagles won 31–0, and frankly, I just don’t feel like complaining anymore. It’s been a long year. Onto Washington.
