Colin Cowherd says he can’t trust the Eagles even though they’re the only NFC team worth trusting
I love Colin Cowherd, but every now and then I’m forced to call out his bullshit Eagles rhetoric.
On Tuesday’s edition of The Herd Hierarchy, where Colin ranks the top 10 teams in the NFL, he slotted Philly at No. 10. And honestly, that part isn’t even unreasonable after the month we’ve all just lived through. What bothered me wasn’t the ranking itself — it was the reasoning behind it.
Colin Cowherd: “I can’t trust the Eagles in a big spot”
More specifically, Cowherd says he can’t trust Jalen Hurts or Nick Sirianni in a big spot. If you can’t trust this duo and the Eagles as a whole, which team in the NFC can you actually trust?
Let’s just run through it real quick:
- Rams: Top tier quarterback and head coach combo but they haven’t beaten the Eagles once since working together, including earlier this season.
- Bears: A feisty group that seems to be getting better every week. But Caleb Williams is still unpredictable and their lack of postseason experience matters, especially when stacked up against the Eagles.
- Seahawks: Sam Darnold.
- Packers: No Micah Parsons for the rest of the year, which basically returns them to where they were last season — a one-and-done team in the playoffs.
- 49ers: Way too many injuries to be a serious threat
- Lions: Up and down all season and we already saw what Jared Goff looks like in the cold and under the bright lights. He folds.
- Bucs/Panthers: Whoever makes it out of the NFC South is a dead man walking.
Now, let’s talk Birds. They’ve had a few tough stretches this year but if they can build offensive momentum, they’re easily the best team in the conference. They have the best defense in the NFC and talent-wise, probably the best offense too. They’re getting healthy at the right time — Lane Johnson is expected to be back either this week or next — along with getting Jalen Carter back for the postseason.
Pedigree also matters when you’re talking about trust in a team and no team in the field has more pedigree right now than the Eagles. Frankly, it’s not even close.
So if you want to write them off fresh off a 31-0 decimation of an NFL team, go for it. Just make sure you’re prepared for the backlash when you’re proven wrong and the Eagles are back in the Super Bowl.
