Craziest 2-point conversion in NFL history costs the Rams the NFC’s top seed and raises bigger playoff questions

If you thought you had seen everything the NFL had to offer, Thursday night in Seattle politely told you to sit down and shut up. The Rams and Seahawks met with the NFC’s top seed on the line, at least for the moment, and what followed was one of the most unhinged finishes you will ever see.

With the Rams up 30-22 midway through the fourth quarter, this game was supposed to be over. Win probability models had Seattle hovering around 2.7 percent with a little more than nine minutes left.

Dead. Buried. On to the next one, right?

One issue there. As we all know, the NFL never works like that.

Seattle stormed back, forced overtime, and fittingly ended the game with another two-point conversion to win it 38-37. While the first two-point try did not technically end the game, it was the moment that cracked everything open and flipped the night on its head.

Let’s be clear about this. The Rams were up 30-14 early in the fourth quarter. When the lead hit 16 points, Seattle’s win probability dipped to around four percent. This was supposed to be a comfortable road win for a team trying to lock down home-field advantage.

Instead, it turned into a nightmare.

And This Is Why I Don’t Trust the Rams in January

Let me put my Eagles hat on for a second, because this matters for the bigger picture. The Rams are talented. No one is arguing that. But being talented and being built for playoff football are two very different things.

We have seen this movie before.

Back in Week 3, the Rams blew a 19-point lead to the Eagles in a game that screamed not ready for the moment. Two blocked field goals. Momentum swings they could not handle. Chaos they could not survive.

When games get weird, when pressure ramps up, when one play changes everything, the Rams have shown a tendency to fold. Thursday night was just the latest example.

Playoff football is not about clean wins and perfect scripts. It is about surviving chaos. It is about responding when everything goes sideways. The Eagles thrive in that environment. The Rams tend to get swallowed by it.

If Thursday night showed us anything, it is that there are teams in the NFC who are far more comfortable living in the mess than Los Angeles.
