Official: Eagles to host 49ers in Wild Card round after narrowly missing on the No. 2 seed

It’s official: the Philadelphia Eagles will host the San Francisco 49ers in Round 1 of the postseason.

The Eagles had a real shot at the No. 2 seed after Detroit pulled off a last-second win over Chicago, but Tanner McKee and company couldn’t finish the comeback on their end.

So yeah — three seed it is.

This might be the best matchup of Wild Card weekend. Not only do the Birds and Niners have real playoff history, they’re also the two winningest NFC teams over the past four years — both making two Super Bowl appearances in that span.

On a personal level, I find Niners fans to be some of the worst this sport has to offer. I’ll never forget the nonstop whining pouring out of the West Coast after the NFC Championship three years ago. Players, fans — all of it. Just downright disgusting behavior.

The football gods handled that accordingly: a brutal Super Bowl loss in 2023, followed by a letdown season in ’24. Now they’re back… kinda. The roster is wrecked by injuries. Yes, it’s still a coaching masterclass with Kyle Shanahan and Robert Saleh, but we all know how this movie usually ends. Shanahan tightens up when the lights get brightest.

I’d expect more of the same next weekend.

Go Birds.
