Flyers will send four players to the Olympics as NHL hits pause in February

The Flyers are going to be well represented on the international stage next month.

With Dan Vladar officially named to Team Czechia, Philly will send four players to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy when the NHL shuts things down in February. Vladar joins a group that already included Rodrigo Abols, Travis Sanheim, and Rasmus Ristolainen, giving Philadelphia a pretty solid footprint at the Games.

Abols had already been named to Team Latvia, which finalized its roster on Tuesday. Sanheim will suit up for Team Canada, while Ristolainen will represent Team Finland. Not a bad mix, and a nice reminder of how much legitimate NHL talent is scattered across this Flyers roster.

Because of the Olympics, the NHL will go dark from February 6 through February 24, meaning the Flyers will play zero games over a 19-day stretch. It’s a rare midseason breather, and depending on how the standings look by then, it could either feel like a blessing or pure torture for fans.

Vladar’s selection is especially notable given how important he’s been for the Flyers this season. The 28-year-old has taken over as the team’s No. 1 goalie and has been excellent doing it. He’s sitting at 15-6-3 with a 2.39 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage, and those 15 wins already represent a career high. Not bad for an offseason pickup who wasn’t exactly billed as a savior when he arrived.

From a Flyers perspective, there’s always the injury anxiety that comes with international play, but there’s also real value in having players trusted on that stage.

It speaks to how the league views them, and it matters in a room that’s still trying to establish itself as a serious contender again.

Four Flyers heading to the Olympics isn’t nothing. It’s another small sign that this team has more legit pieces than it’s been given credit for, and come late February, there will be a few extra reasons to keep an eye on the Games.
