Bryce Harper enters apparel and footwear free agency as contract with Under Armour expires

The MLB hot stove might be crawling, but the sneaker and apparel world just got a little more interesting. Bryce Harper confirmed that his long run with Under Armour is over, at least for now, because his contract has expired and he is officially a free agent in the apparel and footwear category.

Harper did not do the big press release thing. Instead, he popped into the comments on TikTok like it was no big deal. In the video, Harper was taking batting practice in Travis Scott Air Jordans. A fan asked if that meant he left Under Armour, and Harper replied, “Free agent in the apparel/footwear category right now buddy.”

Footwear/Apparel Free Agent Bryce Harper

That is a pretty casual way to announce one of the biggest endorsement openings baseball has had in a long time.

Harper has been tied to Under Armour forever in sports years. He signed with the brand in 2011, then landed a massive 10-year extension in 2016 that ESPN reported was the largest endorsement deal in baseball history at the time.

Under Armour built its baseball identity around him. Signature cleats, training shoes, player exclusive colorways, the whole Bryce Harper machine. The current Harper line is literally into double digits with products like the UA Harper 10 Pro.

So why does this matter now? Two reasons.

First, Harper is still Bryce Harper. He is still a face of the sport, still a Philly icon, and still the type of athlete brands want front and center because he moves product and attention. Second, Under Armour has been going through it.

Multiple recent reports have detailed the company’s financial struggles, and one widely cited figure had the stock trading around $4.50 in late 2025. Under Armour also split from Stephen Curry in November 2025 as part of a broader effort to refocus on its core business. Joel Embiid also left Under Armour for Sketchers two years ago. Brutal.

Under Armour releases limited Joel Embiid MVP t-shirts, raises questions on why they choose to sign endorsement deals with athletes they never promote

Put it together and you can see how a 15-year partnership ends quietly instead of getting the full red carpet treatment.

Now comes the fun part. Harper is one of the biggest sneakerheads in MLB, and he has never been shy about rocking heat. If he wants to go full free agency for a season and rotate brands, he can.

If he wants to cash in with a new long-term deal, he can do that too. Either way, the Phillies will have their star wearing something new this year, and the rest of the baseball world will be staring at his feet trying to figure out what it means.

If Under Armour wants to keep its baseball face, it can still try to bring him back but if Bryce Harper actually hits the open market, he is the biggest name in baseball footwear right now.
