Rock Bottom: WIP host compares Jalen Hurts to Ben Simmons in the worst Philly sports take in history
It’s no secret that bad sports takes are basically currency these days. You see them all over social media, you watch them on television, and you hear them on the radio and podcast microphones daily. Every once and a while, someone drops a “take” so lazy and insulting to the common sports fan that you stop and wonder how they even have a job or hobby where they are so disconnected from reality.
That brings us to none other than Tommy Kelly, from the tumor that is 94.1 WIP right here in the great city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
On Tuesday, Tommy Kelly reminded everyone who’s dumb enough to watch a clip or actually listen to Philly sports talk radio, just how stupidly insulting the radio hosts in this city can be by comparing Jalen Hurts to Ben Simmons.
Tom Kelly makes awful Jalen Hurts Comparison
People won't want to hear this but there is some Ben Simmons in Jalen Hurts. Simmons didn't think he needed to shoot to be effective. Hurts doesn't think he needs to run to be effective. If Hurts doesn't utilize his legs he's not that good and he does not seem to realize that
— Tom Kelly (@TommyKelly44) January 13, 2026
Tommy Kelly should have stopped after “people don’t want to hear this” and that would have been the most accurate statement he has ever said or written onto a social media platform.
Much like the rest of the idiots employed at 94.1 WIP, Tommy Kelly has followed the Spike Eskin Playbook by completely disregarding logical sports talk.
Instead, Tommy Kelly does nothing but push negativity and horrendous “hot takes” that provide absolutely nothing to the actual conversation that Philly sports fans want to hear. It’s a cancer to the conversation, yet somehow, this is the product that we are forced to digest in our city.
Disgusting, really.
It goes without saying that anyone comparing Jalen Hurts to Ben Simmons doesn’t actually believe what they are saying. There’s an agenda in play where nothing matters anymore outside of engagement.
No one should even be surprised. Again, this is from the Spike Eskin Playbook, where Eskin himself said the same thing a few months back, only to be cooked into oblivion for doing so. Judging the amount of replies and likes from Tommy Kelly’s recycled garbage of a tweet above, he’s getting the same exact treatment.
Spike Eskin even replied to the tweet telling “TK” tell him he was the late on the topic. It’s a grotesque carousel of nonsense and somehow, these are the guys that are leading the conversation on the radio in Philly. It’s literally mind-boggling.

Obviously, comparing Jalen Hurts to Ben Simmons Makes Zero Sense
This take falls apart the second you apply basic reality:
- Ben Simmons shrank from the moment. Jalen Hurts runs toward it.
- Ben Simmons refused to shoot. Jalen Hurts was the Eagles leading rusher in BOTH Super Bowl appearances.
- Ben Simmons quit on the city. Jalen Hurts led this franchise to TWO Super Bowls and won one.
Again, what are we even talking about here?
“[Jalen Hurts] Doesn’t Think He Needs to Run”: Based on What, Exactly Tommy?
This is where the take becomes completely unhinged. There is zero context behind is moronic tweet. He has zero evidence that’s actually the mindset that Jalen Hurts has when he takes the field. Hell, he didn’t even bring up the fact that Kevin Patullo is still the offensive coordinator of the Eagles. There’s no evidence, film, or even a reference to a point in a game where Jalen Hurts showed us that even could be the case.
That leads me back to the main point that Tommy Kelly is just an idiot.
As with every post we make in reference to 94.1 WIP and their radio “hosts” it’s important to remember that these people do not speak for Eagles fans. They don’t represent the city of Philadelphia and literally no one values a word that they speak on the radio. There is no “we” when it comes to Philly sports fans and our radio hosts. It’s us vs. them and the idea that people on the radio are even remotely plugged into this fanbase is absurd.
We all know the response of this article too.
94.1 WIP, who has blocked The Liberty Line and all of our guys who write here.
The implication that is constantly made and recycled by these idiots is that The Liberty Line needs these fools for engagement and that couldn’t be further from the truth. This website started five years ago and grown into a platform that now pulls over 30,000 daily readers and more than a million monthly views.
That did not happen because of sports radio. It happened because people are sick of sports radio and the engagement speaks for itself.
The articles calling out WIP and its personalities consistently go viral because fans want a place to vent about how bad local sports talk has become.
It’s not clickbait. It’s demand. We write about WIP to call out the nonsense when it shows up on our social media timelines whether it is reckless Hurts takes, forced positivity pledges, or smug tweets pretending to be above it all.
That goes for the holier than thou” crowd too…
You know who you are, rushing to post things like “I stopped listening to the radio years ago” or “there are so many creators who don’t get involved in the drama,” spare me.
Take the public grandstanding somewhere else. The irony is incredible. If you actually believed what you were tweeting, you wouldn’t feel the need to tweet it at all.
What everyone needs to understand is this…
Remember what the words of Drew Smith, who built The Liberty Line…
You’re reacting to something I wrote, and I’m a guy with absolutely nothing to lose. Local media already hates us. Influencers don’t want to collaborate because we’re wild cards who actually say what we believe instead of falling in line for access or approval.
That’s fine. We’re the outcasts. We’re the voice of the fans who are actually there. We’re in the parking lots tailgating every Eagles home game. We’re in the ballpark all season with the Phillies.
We’re boots on the ground, saying exactly what we feel like saying. It really is that simple. Some people love us for it. A lot of people hate us for it too but honestly, that’s the deal that we signed when we started the website.

I don’t necessarily agree with what he said , with that being said you sound like Jalen’s gf
