Packers sign quarterback Kyle McCord to a futures contract
The Eagles’ “QB factory” just lost another assembly-line project, and it happened quietly while everyone was staring at bigger offseason storylines.
The Packers signed Kyle McCord to a reserve/futures contract on Tuesday, officially yanking the former Eagles sixth-round pick off Philly’s practice squad pipeline and onto Green Bay’s offseason roster.

Here’s the deal with futures contracts…
If you finish the season on a practice squad, you become a free agent the moment the year ends, and you can sign a futures deal anywhere.
It’s basically a cheap “come to OTAs and compete” ticket that lets teams stockpile developmental guys without spending real money, so that’s what Green Bay is doing by signing Kyle McCord.
Kyle McCord is a local-ish story too. He’s from Mount Laurel, played at St. Joseph’s Prep, started his college career at Ohio State as a backup before transferring to Syracuse, and had a huge final season throwing for a ton of yards and piling up awards and buzz.
The Eagles drafted him 181st overall in the 2025 draft, then he struggled in the preseason, got waived at final cuts, and spent the entire year on the practice squad.
So why didn’t the Eagles keep Kyle McCord on a futures deal?
Simple. They weren’t married to the project. The Eagles already have Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee under contract, and Sam Howell is headed for free agency, so the QB3 and QB4 spots are going to be churned anyway.
The Packers already have Jordan Love, plus Malik Willis and Desmond Ridder on the books, so Kyle McCord is a camp arm with upside who might stick if he looks competent and someone else doesn’t.
The Eagles took a Day 3 shot, didn’t see enough to keep the rights, and now another drafted quarterback is off the board before taking a single regular-season snap in Philly. That’s not a tragedy, but it’s another reminder that “QB factory” also produces a lot of inventory that never makes it to the showroom floor.
