Patrick Reed is talking like a guy who already has his suitcase packed for Ireland
In a recent interview, Patrick Reed said he’s gunning for the Ryder Cup in 2027 and that he still “loves” being Captain America.
He’s basically telling Europe right now to get ready, because if he makes that team, he’s showing up with attitude and he wants the smoke.
Patrick Reed on possibly joining Team USA in Ryder Cup 2027
Patrick Reed has always been at his best when the stakes are the highest and the crowds are hostile. He doesn’t just tolerate it, he feeds off it. He even said the fans aren’t trying to be harmful, they’re trying to get a rise, and when they do, he starts going back and forth.
That’s the whole Captain America. Patrick Reed versus all of Europe, and he loves it.

Patrick Reed to rejoin the PGA TOUR later this year
He confirmed to ESPN that he’s leaving LIV Golf and plans to return to the PGA Tour later this year. The Tour said he’ll be eligible to play starting Aug. 25, 2026, which lines him up for FedEx Cup Fall events, sponsor exemptions, qualifiers, the whole grind.
So if you’re wondering why he’s suddenly pounding the table about 2027, it’s because the math is obvious. The 2027 Ryder Cup is at Adare Manor in Ireland and Patrick Reed knows the only way he’s getting back into that conversation is by being visible again, playing real schedules, stacking points, and giving the selection room a reason to deal with him.
Patrick Reed is obviously far from an automatic invite. At the same time, he finished third at the Masters last year and notched a Top 25 finish at the PGA Championship (T23) so it’s not like the guy can’t compete anymore.
Still, Patrick Reed hasn’t played for Team USA since 2018 but make no mistake, he’s one of the most polarizing guys in golf. The talent is real. The match play record is real. The “everybody hates him” factor is also very real.
That’s what makes this so funny. Patrick Reed is basically pitching himself as the exact guy Europe would hate to see again and after what happened last summer at Bethpage, on American soil, Team USA could certainly use him in the mix when they head overseas in 2027.
He’s also not getting a red-carpet return. ESPN reported Reed isn’t eligible for the PGA Tour’s special Returning Member Program that Brooks Koepka used, and as part of his return agreement he’s forfeiting PGA Tour Enterprises player equity through 2030.
So yes, he’s coming back, but he’s paying a price and he’s going to have to earn his way into the bigger fields. Regardless, Patrick Reed is back on the PGA Tour track and already campaigning for Ireland. If he actually plays well enough to make the Ryder Cup decision-makers take him seriously, then Europe is going to get the full Captain America experience again.
If you’re a neutral, you know the truth. Golf is louder when Patrick Reed is involved.
