Caitlin Clark’s face says it all as Reggie Miller makes disrespectful player comparison
The NBA returned to NBC last night for Sunday Night Basketball, and I have to admit—the presentation was awesome. I was genuinely surprised. With no football on this weekend, I turned it on about an hour before tip-off, especially after hearing that Caitlin Clark was going to be a special guest on the broadcast.
If you’re a real basketball junkie like me, you tuned in for Michael Jordan’s long-awaited sit-down segment, which was shortly followed by Caitlin Clark beating Jamal Crawford in HORSE. She put her elite shooting range on full display for the entire world to see.
Honestly, it was a feel-good moment throughout the entire hour leading up to the game. The newly formed NBC broadcast team gave Clark her flowers and showed her the respect she deserves—cough, cough (unlike the WNBA). Most notably, Reggie Miller labeled Caitlin Clark the best shooter in Indiana.
“There’s a new shooter from Indiana. I’m the third best shooter in the state of Indiana now. It goes Caitlin [Clark], Tyrese [Haliburton], then now myself.”

Unfortunately, however, when the team tried to find NBA comparisons for Clark’s game, Reggie Miller—most likely unintentionally, disrespected Caitlin Clark by comparing her to Payton Pritchard.

It’s the fact that Reggie didn’t even hesitate when saying this. Dude, what are we doing? This was the time to lift up the face of the sport, and instead we make a terrible NBA comparison.
I mean, Prichard is a fine NBA player, he’s certainly improved a ton. I guess they have similar skillsets. But that’s it. He’s a tiny role player and Caitlin Clark is the face of a franchise and a sport. She’s a high-volume shooter with NBA range and a generational passer.
Anyways, Caitlin’s face here says it all.
And if you were watching the broadcast, you could tell that all the praise she was receiving made her slightly uncomfortable because of her humble nature—but her reaction in this moment to Reggie’s comments was hilarious. Clark didn’t say a word, yet the cameras caught her immediate reaction: an unmistakable look that suggested she was either genuinely stunned… or flat-out confused.
Luckily, Carmelo Anthony saved the broadcast crew’s asses by comparing her to Luka Dončić—a comparison that makes far more sense.
Carmelo Anthony told Caitlin Clark she could play in the Lakers and Knicks game:

Caitlin: “I mean what’s better MSG, Sunday night, LeBron James, let’s go.”
Melo: “You could play too if you want.”
Caitlin: “Aye I’d get destroyed Melo.” 😭

Look, knowing Reggie Miller he was probably trying way too hard to sound smart here and that’s all this was
But, the internet being what it is: everyone was overreacting and doing mental gymnastics over this. It’s not rocket science y’all. And just because you’re jealous of the spotlight Clark has, just know one thing; she deserves it.
You notice how she fit in perfectly around NBA Hall of Famers and broadcasters on such a large stage? That’s what greatness looks like. Despite the WNBA constantly trying to get in the way and tear her down. And also notice how the coverage was from a sports and entertainment standpoint first? No politics shoved down our throats?
The bottom line is this, Caitlin Clark was clearly taken back by this and it created an hilarious moment. Me being the Clark fan that I am, I did find these comments slightly strange. That is all.
It’s stuff like this that gets in the way of her trying to lift the WNBA for example out of the deep, dark, water that it’s been in. Case and point the ongoing talks of securing the new CBA. Which is only a thing because of Caitlin Clark. Just remember that.
