Make It Stop: Philadelphia projected to get a foot of snow as another nor’easter rolls into town
Philadelphia is once again staring down the barrel of a weekend snowstorm, as a powerful nor’easter is expected to dump anywhere from 8 to 12 inches of snow across the region beginning Sunday afternoon and lasting into Monday morning.
And quite frankly, I need this snow to chill the fuck out.
We’re finally getting a Saturday that isn’t completely miserable — temperatures near 50, partly cloudy skies, a rare stretch of peace in what’s otherwise been a long winter — and now we’re being told that by Sunday night, the entire Philadelphia area could be buried under nearly a foot of snow while wind gusts turn the I-95 corridor into a frozen wind tunnel.
Philadelphia Preparing for Another Snowstorm
According to local forecasts, precipitation is expected to begin early Sunday morning as a rain and snow mix before transitioning fully into snow by mid-afternoon. That’s when the problems start.
Once the sun sets Sunday evening, the storm is expected to intensify rapidly, with the heaviest snowfall projected overnight into Monday morning. Travel conditions across Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs could become dangerous — if not outright impossible — as wind gusts inland reach up to 35 mph and coastal areas see gusts between 40 and 50 mph.
That combination of heavy snow and high winds isn’t just annoying — it’s disruptive in every possible way:
- Monday commutes are likely cooked
- Power outages are on the table
- Low-lying coastal areas could see minor to moderate flooding
- And anything you planned on doing that requires leaving your house is probably getting canceled
Steady snowfall is expected to continue into early Monday before tapering off sometime after 11 a.m., assuming everything goes according to forecast.
Philadelphia Needs This Storm to Relax
Look, nobody is saying winter storms aren’t part of the deal when you live in the Northeast. That’s understood. But the timing here could not be worse for Philadelphia, especially with the storm expected to ramp up right as people are wrapping up their weekends and preparing for the work week.
There’s a massive difference between a casual midweek snow day and a Sunday night system that shuts down an entire metro area heading into Monday morning. One is manageable. The other throws a wrench into everything from commuting schedules to school openings to basic day-to-day functionality.

Residents across Philadelphia have already begun stocking up on supplies ahead of the storm, which tells you everything you need to know about how seriously this one’s being taken.
Hopefully, the forecast shifts in our favor between now and Sunday. But as things currently stand, it looks like the region is preparing for a long night of heavy snow, strong winds, and a Monday morning that’s going to be a logistical nightmare.
Respectfully, I am asking the weather to relax.
