Eagles CJGJ

Eagles’ Super Bowl good luck charm wants to come back, and honestly, why not?

Whenever CJ Gardner-Johnson is on the Philadelphia Eagles, they go to the Super Bowl.

Two seasons with the team. Two Super Bowl appearances. Twelve combined interceptions across those runs. At a certain point, it stops being a coincidence and starts speaking for itself.

During a brief cameo on a recent stream, CJGJ was asked whether he would consider a return to Philadelphia.

The Birds defense didn’t fall off a cliff last year the way it did the first time CJGJ left, but there’s still a very real path to him finding his way back to Philadelphia.

Reed Blankenship is set to hit free agency, and Andrew Mukuba could miss the start of the season while recovering from a torn ACL. That leaves the Eagles pretty thin at safety, which would give Gardner-Johnson a perfect opening to slide back in and stabilize the group.

Both of his previous exits were a little messy. Last year especially, when he took some shots at the team and his former teammates on the way out. He’s since apologized, and whenever the Birds come up now, CJGJ always sounds open to a return.

It’s probably not very likely. Going back to the same well for a third time doesn’t exactly scream Howie Roseman’s style. But maybe another one-year run is all this team needs. All I know is that when this guy is here, good things tend to happen. I’d be all for a reunion if both sides are willing to make it work.
