WATCH: Trae Young ejected from Wizards-Rockets before playing a single minute with the team

Trae Young was sitting on the Wizards bench in street clothes during Monday’s game against the Houston Rockets, days away from making his debut with his new team.

The game was rolling along when Rockets forward Tari Eason shoved Wizards rookie Jamir Watkins to the ground, words were exchanged, technical fouls were handed out, and Eason got tossed.

Trae Young, watching from the bench in his street clothes, was not going to stay quiet about any of it.

He berated referee Jacyn Goble for not calling the original foul on Eason. Then he followed Goble onto the court. That is an automatic ejection. Trae Young was ejected from an NBA game before playing a single minute for his new team, potentially making him the first player in NBA history to get thrown out before their debut with a franchise.

There is actually something respectable about it too. He was in street clothes, not even eligible to play, and he still got up and backed his new teammates in a physical moment.

That is a guy showing the locker room immediately that he is locked in and he has their backs. Not exactly the method most veterans would choose, but the message landed.

The whole thing brought back immediate memories of Joel Embiid getting a technical foul last season while sitting on the bench injured during a Sixers-Pacers game.

Embiid was waving a towel. The NBA reviewed it the next day and issued the tech anyway. The NBA officiating office always finds a way to be the story. At least Trae Young walked onto the court first. Embiid was just sitting there with a towel.
