Report links Eagles to David Njoku, but take it with a huge grain of salt

NFL free agency is right around the corner, which means the Eagles are about to be “linked” to just about every notable player hitting the open market. The latest name? Tight end David Njoku, who is reportedly drawing interest from Howie Roseman.

On the surface, it makes sense. Dallas Goedert is about to hit free agency, and the Eagles currently have zero viable starters at the position.

The only problem is where the report is coming from: 94WIP’s Eliot Shorr-Parks. Personally, I like ESP, but I’ll be damned if I’m putting much stock in reporting coming out of that station.

Eagles reportedly have interest in Njoku

Putting my thoughts about the source of the report aside, I actually think this would be a great signing for the Eagles.

Njoku is an athletic freak and likely wouldn’t cost a fortune. He’ll be 30 next season and is coming off a bit of a down year, which could keep his market reasonable. Granted, he’s spent his entire career in Cleveland, so you have to take the production with a grain of salt.

Statistically, he’s not that far off from what Dallas Goedert has provided. The big difference is that Njoku has never had a legitimate quarterback consistently throwing him the ball. That obviously changes if he lands in Philly with Jalen Hurts under center.

Free agency moves fast, so we won’t have to wait long to see how this plays out. But if the Eagles are actually kicking the tires here, it’s not hard to see the logic. Njoku has the talent to thrive in the right offense, and the Eagles might be one of the few places where that upside finally gets unlocked.
