Drake Maye showed up to the Tokyo Dome wearing a Shohei Ohtani jersey, bringing shame to Boston and the United States of America
This is a bad look for Drake Maye, the city of Boston, the United States of America and for Major League Baseball.
The New England Patriots quarterback and his wife were spotted at Tokyo Dome on Saturday for Japan vs. Korea in the World Baseball Classic. MLB’s own social media accounts posted the photo and there is Drake Maye, quarterback of the New England Patriots, wearing a Shohei Ohtani Los Angeles Dodgers jersey.
Drake Maye is DISGUSTING (lol)
Let me be clear. Shohei Ohtani is obviously one of the best baseball players to ever live. That is not the argument. The argument is that Drake Maye is the quarterback of the New England Patriots. He is an east coast guy. He plays in Boston. He flew all the way to Tokyo for a World Baseball Classic game.
Not a single person in his life, not one, pulled him aside and said hey, maybe do not wear a Dodgers jersey of the guy who wants nothing more than to beat America (again) in the World Baseball Classic?
There’s so much blame to go around that I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with the Boston Red Sox. How can the city of Boston allow Drake Maye to fly to the other side of the world without a Team USA Roman Anthony jersey? Hell, he could have gotten a Garrett Whitlock jersey too. There’s two Boston Red Sox on Team USA and no one got word that Drake Maye would be wearing a Dodgers Ohtani jersey?
That’s on the Red Sox and the entire city of Boston for not getting their quarterback one of two perfectly acceptable options for a World Baseball Classic game in Japan.
It simply cannot happen.
Am I surprised that Major League Baseball propped up Ohtani yet again? Absolutely not. In fact, they probably gave Drake Maye the Ohtani jersey. While we’re on the topic, everyone lovestruck by Ohtani hitting home runs in Tokyo need to relax too.
Sure, they were great and one was a grand slam but when you’re going against an opposing pitcher throwing 77 mph over the center of the plate are we really surprised?
Mission accomplished, I guess. Drake Maye is standing in Tokyo Dome in an Ohtani Dodgers jersey and the whole internet is talking about it.
The Red Sox fan base is rightfully annoyed. America is pissed off too. Shohei Ohtani, who does not need any more help, just got a free endorsement from the quarterback of one of the most visible franchises in American sports.
Get this man a Team USA jersey next time. It is not complicated.
