Paradise Hulu Nick Castellanos Get Up Greenie

Nick Castellanos hit a walk off home run for the Phillies on day the world ended in Hulu’s Paradise

If you are not watching Paradise on Hulu, here is your quick rundown.

It is a post-apocalyptic thriller from This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman, starring Sterling K. Brown as a Secret Service agent investigating the murder of a former U.S. President inside a massive underground bunker built for elite survivors after a super-volcano eruption wiped out the surface world.

Paradise is basically a political thriller, sci-fi mystery, doomsday bunker drama all wrapped up into one and all things considered, a very good show.

Paradise Season 2, Episode 5 just aired. In a flashback to the day of the catastrophic event, the sports news on television is showing that Nick Castellanos hit a walk-off home run. Meanwhile, Greenie and the rest of the Get Up crew are in the middle of a debate about whether Philadelphia is the best sports city in America.

The world is ending. Nick Castellanos is hitting walk-off home runs while ESPN debates Philly’s place in sports history. Absolutely perfect.

Nick Castellanos Easter Egg in Paradise

Nick Castellanos crushes HR shortly after Joe Biden dropped out of presidential election, a list of significant dingers from the Phillies’ slugger dating back to 2020

If you know, you know. Nick Castellanos has an inexplicable and well-documented history of hitting home runs in the immediate proximity of tragedy, disaster, and catastrophic events. It is one of the great running bits in baseball.

The fact that a television writer specifically chose Nick Castellanos as the player hitting the walk-off on the day a supervolcano ends civilization as we know it is not an accident.

Someone in that writers room is a baseball person and they nailed it.

Not sure if Dan Fogelman is a Philly sports guy. He is from River Vale, New Jersey, which puts him squarely in the northern part of the state where the gravitational pull of New York sports is very real.

Either he is a baseball guy who fully understands the Nick Castellanos lore and made the call on pure baseball knowledge, or he grew up smart enough to root for Philadelphia teams instead of New York ones. Jury is still out.

Either way, whoever made the decision to use Nick Castellanos made the right call.

Then there is the Philadelphia angle. The world is literally ending, the apocalypse is here and ESPN’s first instinct is to debate whether Philly is the best sports city in America.

Go figure. If the earth is going out, there is no more fitting final conversation.

Paradise is on Hulu. Watch it.
