Meant to Be: Riq Woolen once told Carson Wentz he was a legend, now he’s an Eagle
The Eagles made their first move of free agency Tuesday, signing Riq Woolen to a one-year, $15 million deal.
I’m very excited to see him line up alongside Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. That’s a fun secondary on paper.
And honestly, we probably should’ve known Woolen was going to end up in Philadelphia eventually. Whenever a guy gets starstruck by Carson Wentz — while Wentz is wearing a Rams jersey, no less — it just feels like the universe is trying to push him toward the Eagles.
I don’t know the science behind that. It’s just a gut feeling I have, and that’s about as much as I can explain it.
Riq Woolen once told Wentz he was a legend. Now he’s an Eagle.
This clip is from 2023, well after Carson’s heyday. Telling him he’s a legend at that stage of his career almost feels a little mean — like you’re low-key making fun of him.
But Riq Woolen seemed completely sincere. No sarcasm, no trolling, just genuine respect. He seems like a standup guy, and more importantly, someone who’s going to lock down the half of the field that isn’t already occupied by Quinyon Mitchell.
And if things go the way the Eagles hope, quarterbacks might not want to throw to either side. That’s the kind of problem every defense wants to have.
