Eagles got an assist from their defensive leader in landing Arnold Ebiketie

Eagles fans can go ahead and add Jordan Davis to the front office payroll, because he might’ve just played a role in free agency.

According to Arnold Ebiketie, a simple phone call with Davis helped seal the deal and bring him to Philadelphia. And honestly, it tells you everything you need to know about how this team operates right now.

Before signing, Ebiketie reached out to Davis to get a real feel for what the Eagles defense is like behind the scenes. Not the media version. Not the agent pitch. The real thing.

And Davis didn’t sugarcoat it.

He told him this defense works, plays together, stops the run, and gets after the quarterback. Simple, but effective. More importantly, it aligned perfectly with what Ebiketie was looking for in his next stop.

“He told me the obvious,” Ebiketie said to reporters on Monday. “Philadelphia Eagles defense, they’re going to put the work in, they’re going to play together, in sync as a defense. They’re going to stop the run and have the opportunity to get after the quarterback. That pretty much aligned with what I was looking for, so that’s why I decided to come here.”

That’s how you recruit.

Eagles culture is recruiting itself

This is where things get interesting for the Eagles, because this isn’t just about one free agent signing. This is about what the locker room has become.

Ebiketie didn’t come to Philly chasing the biggest bag or some inflated role. He came because the football made sense. Vic Fangio’s system. A proven defensive identity. A chance to actually develop and contribute.

And when players are calling your guys to ask, “What’s it really like over there?” that means something.

The Eagles aren’t just selling a pitch anymore. The players are doing it for them.

There’s also a full-circle element here. Ebiketie started his college career at Temple and became an Eagles fan during the 2017 Super Bowl run. He literally watched the city erupt and decided, yeah, that’s where I want to be one day.

Now he’s here. And it didn’t take much convincing.

Eagles betting on upside in a loaded room

From a football standpoint, this is a classic Eagles move.

Ebiketie isn’t coming off some monster year, but the underlying numbers tell a different story. His role dipped in Atlanta last season, but his pressure rate remained strong. That’s the kind of bet this front office loves to make.

Plug him into a defensive line room with Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt, let Fangio work, and see what happens.

At worst, you’ve added depth and competition. At best, you’ve unlocked a player who’s been buried in the wrong situation.

And based on how this all came together, it’s not hard to see why the Eagles feel good about it.

Because when your own players are helping recruit talent, and guys around the league are buying in after one phone call, that’s not luck.

That’s a program.
