Eagles quickly reload at safety after trade, prioritizing experience and special teams
The Eagles didn’t waste any time fixing the hole they created.
Just hours after shipping Sydney Brown to Atlanta, the Birds moved quickly to rebuild the safety room, bringing back a familiar face in Marcus Epps and adding elite special teamer JT Gray.
It’s not flashy. But it’s necessary, and honestly, it’s smart.
Eagles add stability with Epps, versatility with Gray
Epps is the key piece here.
The Eagles know exactly what they’re getting, a reliable, experienced safety who has already started big games in this system. He stepped in late last season and held his own, and now he’s back in a room that desperately needed someone steady.
Gray is a different type of addition.
He’s not coming in to start. He’s here to dominate on special teams, something the Birds clearly value, while giving them depth at safety if needed. A Pro Bowl and All-Pro special teamer doesn’t just fall into your lap.
Eagles still have work to do
Let’s not pretend this completely fixes the position.
The Eagles were down bad at safety after the Brown trade, and while these moves raise the floor, they don’t necessarily raise the ceiling. There’s still room, and probably a need, for another addition, whether that’s in the draft or another veteran signing.
