Flyers dominate West Coast trip, improve to 9-2-1 over last 12 games with win over the Sharks
The Flyers went to California and took care of business. A 4-1 win over the Sharks on Saturday at SAP Center capped a perfect road trip, three wins in four days after an overtime victory over the Ducks and a shootout win over the Kings.
Owen Tippett scored his 24th of the season to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead in the second period and he has looked genuinely dynamic over this stretch. He is pushing for his first 30-goal season and the way he is playing right now it feels attainable.
Christian Dvorak scored the game winner in the third period on the power play, a timely breakthrough for a unit that had not scored in five straight games. Travis Sanheim and Noah Cates added empty netters to close it out.
Dan Vladar was excellent again. Twenty-four saves on 25 shots, the only blemish a Sharks power play goal after Emil Andrae accidentally sent the puck over the glass.
He made a sharp pad save on Macklin Celebrini in the second period to keep the lead intact and was locked in all night. He has allowed two or fewer goals in 28 of his 42 starts this season. He has been the reason this team is still in it.
The Flyers are now 34-23-12 with 80 points and 13 games remaining. They finished with 76 points all of last season. They are already past that and there is still meaningful hockey left to play. The six-game point streak is real. The 9-2-1 record over the last 12 games is real. This team is not going away.
The standings situation is still tight and still requires help. The Flyers are four points back of Detroit for the second wild card spot with three head-to-head games against the Red Wings still to come. They are five points back of Columbus for third in the Metropolitan Division. Every game from here is critical and the schedule is going to tell the story.
Flyers Wild Card Standings Update:

Worth noting that the Flyers played with 11 forwards and seven defensemen again after Couturier, Barkey, and Glendening all missed a second straight game. Emil Andrae played most of the night as a forward.
Garrett Wilson dropped the gloves with Ryan Reaves in his second NHL game in nearly seven years.
Noah Cates fought Barclay Goodrow in the second period after Goodrow put a hit on Trevor Zegras. The Flyers did not need the energy boost but they took it anyway.
They come home Tuesday against the Blue Jackets at 7 PM ET on ESPN+ and Hulu. A direct opponent in the standings. A game they need.
