Eagles bring back offensive line depth on 1-year deal
Eagles are running it back with a familiar piece up front, re-signing veteran offensive tackle Fred Johnson to a one-year deal to maintain depth heading into the 2026 season.
This is a straightforward move. The Eagles are keeping continuity along the offensive line, which has been the backbone of this roster for years.
Eagles keep offensive line depth intact
After briefly leaving in free agency following the Super Bowl run, Johnson returned to Philadelphia via trade before the 2025 season. He went on to appear in all 17 games and made eight starts, filling in when needed and doing exactly what the Eagles ask from their depth pieces.
The production wasn’t elite, but that’s not the role. The Birds value reliability, availability, and experience in the trenches, and he checked those boxes.
Eagles stick to what works
Philadelphia’s brass isn’t overthinking this offseason. Coaching staff tweaks have been made, but the core roster remains intact, especially along the offensive line.
Bringing back a player who already knows the system, has starting experience, and can step in without the offense missing a beat is a no-brainer.
It’s not flashy. It doesn’t move headlines.
But it’s exactly how the Birds keep winning.
