Eagles host massive Miami OT Markel Bell for pre-draft visit

Eagles fans know the deal by now. If there’s a giant offensive lineman with real traits and a developmental ceiling, there’s a decent chance Howie Roseman is going to sniff around.

That appears to be the case again with Miami offensive tackle Markel Bell, who is reportedly visiting Philadelphia on a top-30 pre-draft visit. At 6-foot-9 and 346 pounds, Bell is not hard to spot. He’s the kind of human mountain that immediately makes sense for an Eagles team that is always looking to keep the pipeline stocked in the trenches.

The Eagles have built this thing from the inside out for years, and they’re not changing now. Even with Fred Johnson back in the mix, it would not be surprising at all if Philadelphia used a mid-round pick on another offensive tackle they can develop behind the scenes.

That’s where Bell becomes interesting.

He did not allow a sack in 558 pass-protection snaps during the 2025 season at Miami, which is obviously going to get people’s attention. You don’t stumble into that kind of production, especially at his size. Bell has the length, wingspan, and raw power you want to work with, and that alone makes him an easy player to understand from the Eagles’ perspective.

This is the kind of move that makes sense for a team that never stops planning ahead. Lane Johnson is not going to play forever, and quality tackle depth is never something you should treat like a luxury.

Eagles could view Markel Bell as a project

The big thing here is that Bell does not sound like a finished product.

The pass protection appears to be ahead of the run blocking right now, and that’s probably why he’s more of a mid-round projection than some can’t-miss first-round name. But that also feels like exactly the type of player the Eagles would be comfortable betting on. If the tools are there, Philly will believe they can clean up the rest.

Bell’s path also fits the mold of a guy who had to work his way into this spot. He was not some hyped-up recruit from the jump. He started at the junior college level, transferred to Miami, earned All-ACC honors, and kept climbing. That kind of background usually plays well in Philly.

So no, this does not mean the Eagles are definitely drafting Markel Bell. It just means they’re doing what smart teams do. They’re checking in on another high-upside lineman with absurd size and letting the process play out.

And honestly, if the Eagles are meeting with a 6-foot-9 tackle who didn’t allow a sack all season, that’s probably not something you ignore.
