Rhys Hoskins Cleveland Seattle Tag from Third

WATCH: Rhys Hoskins makes the worst base running decision of the 2026 MLB season

Full disclosure, I love Rhys Hoskins. Miss him dearly in Philadelphia. Still have nothing but respect for the man.

That said, what he did on the bases last night was genuinely one of the most unhinged things I have ever watched in a baseball game.

Top of the fifth at T-Mobile Park. Bases loaded, one out, Cleveland trailing the Mariners 3-1. Rhys Hoskins on third and Steven Kwan hits a fly ball to left field that travels 206 feet. Randy Arozarena camps under it without moving.

The ball lands in his glove without drama, then all of the sudden, for some bizarre reason, Rhys Hoskins who has never been a “speed guy” attempted to tag up and score from third base.

Video below but to put it into context, Statcast later confirmed the ball fell 43 feet short of even being a playable sacrifice fly. Forty-three feet. Randy Arozarena basically lobbed the ball in from left and Cal Raleigh didn’t even have to work for it.

He caught the throw, applied the tag, and the inning was over on a double play before Cleveland could even process what had happened.

Where are you going, Rhys Hoskins?

The internet was merciless and the internet was right.

George Kirby had a quality start. Cole Young hit a three-run homer. Luke Raley added a solo shot. The Mariners won 5-1. None of that is what anyone is talking about today. What everyone is talking about is Rhys Hoskins deciding that a 206-foot fly ball to shallow left field was enough to get him home from third.

Rhys Hoskins, brother, I love you. Please never do that again.
