Flyers NHL Playoffs Standings Update Trevor Zegras Matvei Michkov

Flyers still alive and 2 points back of the playoffs with Detroit in South Philly tonight

The Flyers fell to the Capitals 6-4 on Tuesday night in Washington and it stings because of what was available. A win would have pulled them even with Columbus for the second wild card spot with the tiebreaker of fewer games played.

Instead the Flyers lost and 22 minutes later the Blue Jackets lost to Carolina anyway. The good news is that the Flyers didn’t gain ground but they did not lose any either.

Detroit lost to Pittsburgh. Ottawa lost to Florida. Both teams on two-game losing streaks. The bubble is as tight as it has been all season.

Two points back. Eight games left. Detroit is at Xfinity Mobile Arena tonight at 7 PM.

Flyers Wild Card Picture

  • Boston Bruins — 94 pts, 75 GP — W4
  • Columbus Blue Jackets — 88 pts, 75 GP — L1
  • — PLAYOFF LINE —
  • Ottawa Senators — 86 pts, 74 GP — L2
  • Detroit Red Wings — 86 pts, 74 GP — L2
  • Philadelphia Flyers — 86 pts, 74 GP — L1 ← us
  • Washington Capitals — 85 pts, 75 GP — W3

Three teams at 86 points. Ottawa, Detroit, and the Flyers are all sitting on the same number with one game in hand on each of them.

Columbus is two points up at 88 with a game in hand on the Flyers as well. Win tonight and Philadelphia pulls even with Detroit and takes the tiebreaker. That is the entire assignment right now. One game at a time and this one is as big as any on the schedule.

Flyers Remaining Schedule

  • Thu Apr 2 — vs Detroit Red Wings (tonight)
  • Fri Apr 3 — vs NY Islanders
  • Sun Apr 5 — at Boston Bruins
  • Tue Apr 7 — vs New Jersey Devils
  • Thu Apr 9 — at Detroit Red Wings
  • Sat Apr 11 — at Winnipeg Jets
  • Mon Apr 13 — at Carolina Hurricanes
  • Tue Apr 14 — at Montreal Canadiens

Two games against Detroit. One tonight at home and one in eight days on the road. The Flyers control their own destiny against the team they are directly chasing and that is exactly the situation you want.

Boston on Sunday is a likely loss. Winnipeg, Carolina, and Montreal on the road to close it out are all winnable. Islanders and Devils at home are winnable. The path is right in front of them.

None of that matters without a win tonight. Simple as that.
