Rays Fan Full Moon Cubs Rays Foul Ball

Nothing but respect for the Rays fan who risked it all to secure a foul ball, going ‘full moon’ in the process

The Chicago Cubs held a 9-2 lead on the Rays with two outs in the top of ninth inning on Tuesday night in Tampa.

Matt Shaw was at the plate in what was basically a dead game. Tampa rarely pays attention to baseball games to begin with and when you’re getting beat that bad, I’m surprised anyone was still in the ballpark watching.

Shaw hit a foul ball that twisted into the right field seats and one fan’s night took a drastic turn that literally no one watching or brave enough to still be in their seats was prepared for. The guy attempted to catch the foul ball, slipped, and accidentally mooned the entire broadcast and everyone sitting within thirty feet of him.

Full moon on a beautiful Tuesday night in Tampa. Can’t beat it honestly.

Full Moon during Cubs-Rays game on Tuesday night

Honestly, the best part is the fact that the Rays were getting smoked 9-2 with two outs in the ninth inning. The Cubs had the game won and for whatever reason, our hero in the video above was still going all-in on a foul ball. I respect the dedication, even if he forgot to make sure that his pants were staying on in the process.

The silver lining for this Rays fan is that it happened with half an inning left and no chance of extras. Imagine doing that in the first inning and then having to sit in your seat for three more hours knowing exactly what just happened and that everyone around you saw it.

I actually feel for the guy but something tells me he didn’t even care to begin with. What casuals don’t understand is that there’s a foul ball in play in the stands. Most baseball fans never even catch one while others wait decades for the opportunity. This man got lucky in the worst possible way and quite literally laid everything on the line to secure the baseball.

This post is about respect. Nothing more. Nothing less.

He did keep the foul ball though. Whatever dignity was lost in that moment, the ball is his forever. I respect the commitment to the catch. You went for it. It did not go well. You still came home with a baseball. That is a complicated kind of win.
