Eagles post a ‘Go Birds’ message on the moon for Artemis II, Christina Koch who is constantly in space watching Philly sports

The Philadelphia Eagles posted an Earthrise image taken from the surface of the Moon this week with the words “GO BIRDS” etched into it and captioned it “a message from the moon.”

The post was for NASA mission specialist Christina Koch, who launched on April 1st aboard Artemis II on a historic 10-day mission around the Moon. The first crewed lunar mission since 1972.

The mission will break the Apollo 13 distance record by 4,144 miles, putting the crew 252,799 statute miles from Earth at its farthest point and within 4,112 miles of the lunar surface at closest approach before looping back and splashing down.

Koch is the first woman to travel beyond low Earth orbit and circle the Moon. She is up there right now alongside commander Reid Wiseman, pilot Victor Glover, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

She is also an Eagles fan and that is the part of this story I want to focus on.

Koch’s husband is from South Jersey and he clearly did his job because she has been repping the Birds from some of the most extraordinary locations any Eagles fan has ever watched from.

She streamed Eagles games from the International Space Station during her 328-day stay. She wore the gear. She posted photos of herself watching from orbit. Now she is a quarter million miles from Earth circling the Moon and the Eagles sent her a message anyway. That is Philly sports doing what Philly sports does.

Hey Christina Koch…GO BIRDS

Now let me say a few other things about all of this.

I like space. It rules. But I am personally of the belief that the final frontier is Earth’s oceans. Roughly 20 to 27 percent of the global seafloor has been mapped with high-resolution sonar while over 80 percent remains completely unexplored.

We know more about the surface of Mars than we know about our own ocean floor. I think we should be twenty thousand leagues under the sea before we are heading back to the Moon but I am not going to complain that we are going up instead of down. Hell yeah brother. Go find out what is up there.

I will also say, and this is where my algorithm has been taking me lately, that I would lean toward believing NASA faked the Apollo moon landings between 1969 and 1972 to win the space race. I am saying that somewhat.

All these videos of astronauts bopping around the surface and driving that moon car with an American flag waving in the breeze and none of it looks real to me. That flag should not be waving. There is no wind on the Moon. I am just saying.

So technically you cannot go back somewhere you have never actually been. But Christina Koch is out there right now making history regardless of what I think about 1969, and she is doing it as an Eagles fan, and the Eagles sent a Go Birds message from the surface of the Moon to honor her.

Philly sports run deep. All the way to the Moon and back.

GO BIRDS Christina Koch. Make us proud.
