Phillies prospect Luke Gabrysh strikes out four batters in the first inning
While the Phillies continue to stink it up, one of their prospects 45 minutes away in Lakewood did something genuinely special on Friday night. Luke Gabrysh, a Philadelphia-area kid out of St. Joseph’s University and a 15th-round pick in the 2024 Draft, was on the mound for High-A Jersey Shore against Brooklyn at ShoreTown Ballpark.
Luke Gabrysh struck out the leadoff hitter to open the game but the third strike got away and the runner reached first. No problem. Gabrysh proceeded to strike out the next three hitters in a row to end the inning.
Luke Gabrysh. 4 Strikeouts in the 1st Inning
Four strikeouts in one inning. It is a rare feat that only happens when the third strike gets away and the pitcher is nasty enough to come right back and do it again immediately. Luke Gabrysh made it look routine. He became the sixth BlueClaws pitcher on record to strike out four hitters in a single inning.
That was just the first frame. He went on to throw four no-hit innings total with nine strikeouts on the night. A 15th-round pick who is not supposed to be on anyone’s radar putting up a line like that at High-A is the kind of performance that moves a prospect up lists fast.
Luke Gabrysh. 2 innings. 7 batters. 7 strikeouts.
Shoutout to Cristopher Sanchez, who accomplished the four strikeout feat during the World Baseball Classic earlier this year.
