The Prodigal Son: Porter Martone makes NHL history with two game-winning goals in two career playoff games
Flyers rookie Porter Martone (19 years old, mind you) scored his second goal in as many playoff games Monday night as the Flyers shut out the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-0 to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. Per ESPN, he’s the first teenager in NHL history to score a game-winning goal in each of his first two career playoff games.
Just look at Porter Martone here. By god, this goal is a beauty:

The kid broke a scoreless second-period tie off a Ryan Shea deflection that bounced right to him in the slot. It was pure instinct. He just backhanded it past Stuart Skinner and kept skating like he’s been pouring in playoff goals for a decade. He has, in fact, not been doing this for a decade. He’s been doing this for about three weeks.
Three weeks ago, this guy was at Michigan State. He finished his freshman season with 50 points in 35 games, signed his entry-level contract on March 29th, and now he’s out here making NHL history in the Stanley Cup Playoffs a few weeks later. I mean, who does this kid think he is?
We’ve been covering Martone on this site since the Flyers took him sixth overall in the 2025 draft. We watched him commit to Michigan State and go put up eye-watering numbers. Then, we watched him tap a Czech guy on the ass at the World Juniors like a psychopath. And now we’re watching him be one of the best players on the ice in a playoff series at nineteen years of age. At some point, you just have to tip your cap.
Porter Martone was not deterred by the bright lights of the NHL Playoffs like many teenagers are presumed to be. He just genuinely does not know any better. He got thrown into the fire and has emerged as the key to the Flyers’ potential playoff success. That just isn’t normal.
If you want to celebrate appropriately, we’ve got you covered. The Marty McFlyer shirt is available right now in The Liberty Line Shop. Grab one. You’ve earned it, you sick puppies. I hope to see you wearing one in South Philly on Wednesday night.
MARTY MCFLYER!
