WATCH: Philly crossing guard becomes instant legend after stolen truck crashes into school playground
Jamele Ransom is the newest Philly legend to grace our timelines.
A stolen work truck reportedly came flying through Kingsessing on Tuesday afternoon, ran a red light, hit an SUV, sent that SUV into a parked car, and ended up overturned on the playground at S. Weir Mitchell Elementary School.
Real normal Tuesday in Philly stuff.
Somehow, no students were hurt. The School District said there were no children on the playground when the truck rolled in. That alone is a miracle.
Then there is Ransom.
The crossing guard watched this whole disaster unfold in real time. He told NBC10 the driver “ran the red light” and “t-boned the lady.” Then he had to get out of the way himself.
The way he was able to deliver the facts here is commendable.

“I’m bobbing and weaving,” Ransom said. “I’m just thankful. Thankful to be alive right now. Thank you Jesus.”
Again, this man is saying all of this while eating a soft serve ice cream cone.
Not pacing around in shock. Not sitting on the curb. Not waving his arms like every normal person who just saw a stolen truck flip into a school playground.
He had the cone in hand and the full postgame press conference ready.
Ransom also said he pulled a child out of one of the vehicles after the crash.
“I grab a kid out, because he’s stuck, frantic, pull him out,” Ransom told NBC10.
That is real hero stuff. Just a crossing guard in Kingsessing doing what had to be done while apparently refusing to let his ice cream melt.
He also said another man was trapped inside one of the vehicles.
“Guy’s in there. He’s trapped in there,” Ransom said.
After pulling a kid out and realizing what just happened, Ransom said he had to step away and collect himself.
“Then I run out and get myself together because my heart is boom, boom, boom, boom.”
Perfect quote. Perfect delivery. Perfect Philadelphia character.
The truck was reportedly stolen from a job site on 62nd Street after workers left it unlocked and running. Somebody jumped in, took off, and turned a regular afternoon near an elementary school into a scene from Grand Theft Auto Kingsessing.
NBC10 said SkyForce10 showed the truck flipped on its side on the playground, with damaged cars nearby and a crowd of adults and kids around the scene.
The good news is no students were hurt. The better news is Philly has a new local legend.
Jamele Ransom dodged a stolen truck, helped pull a kid from the wreckage, thanked Jesus, explained the whole thing to the news, and did it all with a soft serve ice cream cone in his hand.
Give that man a raise, a fresh cone, and whatever street in Kingsessing he wants named after him.

The best thing Philly has right now.
