Scorched Earth: AJ Brown trade deadline is here, Patriots still reluctant to give up a first-round pick

It’s officially June 1. The day AJ Brown may or may not be traded to the New England Patriots.

Look, I’ve fought the good fight for the past several months. Even for an Eagles-first patriot like myself, it’s hard for me to envision this thing ending up any other way than AJ going to New England.

Over the past week, we’ve gotten a handful of tidbits regarding each team’s position. The framework of the deal is already reportedly in place, but there also seems to be hesitancy on New England’s part. Philadelphia wants a first-round pick, whether it be in 2027 or 2028. The Patriots are reluctant to give that up. So, we could be at a standoff once 4PM hits.

Per Josina Anderson, the Patriots seem to be scrambling.

The latest on AJ brown from Josina Anderson:

As of late yesterday, I was told some reluctance remains among segments of the #Patriots higher-ranks for giving up any form of a first-round pick for #Eagles WR AJ Brown, but that the plan remains to huddle-up this morning on 11th-hour trade-term stances—including whether they’re collectively* okay with giving up a later first-rounder as comfortable middle ground.

While it was acknowledged to me that a 2028 1st-rounder has come up in discussions, it was not yet affirmed that this compensation was 100% greenlit at the time of discussions with sources yesterday.

This whole thing is pretty simple. If you want AJ Brown, give us a first-round pick. If not, pound dirt.

For the millionth time, the Eagles do not need to trade AJ Brown. They never did. It’s on the Patriots to give Howie Roseman an offer he can’t refuse, not the other way around.

If New England wants to wait it out, let them. Who cares. If AJ doesn’t show up to the NovaCare Complex while this all plays out, fine. The Eagles already did their due diligence in address the possibility of AJ not being here. They have guys to replace him. The Patriots have been banking on this trade for over a year now. Really, ever since Mike Vrabel walked through the doors.

Fuck ’em. That’s what I say. Scorched Earth. You don’t give us a first-round pick today and make us wait it out, up the price to two first-round picks. Every month that passes, add another first to the package. New England can suck a bag of dicks. Your owner goes to wishy washy massage parlors as a hobby, your head coach was involved in the biggest scandal of the offseason, and your team embarrassed themselves in the Super Bowl last year. You need this way more than we do.

If you want to play this game, we can play it! I’m all in. And I’m sure Howie is too.
