Untangling the rumors behind why AJ Brown wanted out of Philadelphia
AJ Brown is officially gone. The trade went down just like everyone said it would, and now AJ is in New England. Great. Happy for him.
Now that it’s official, the streets are talking. And by the streets, I mean people on Twitter sharing what they claim is credible knowledge about why AJ Brown wanted out of Philadelphia. According to these rumors, it never had anything to do with what was happening on the field.
Let’s start from the top. Before I get into it, credit to @mansasimba on Twitter for being the first to post this.
AJ Brown’s frustration with the team broken down:
- 2023 season: Haason Reddick was still with the Eagles and remained a productive player.
- 2023 locker room issue: According to the post, Reddick allegedly had tension with No. 11 over a massage therapist they had both been banging.
- QB1’s role: The post claims QB1 knew about the situation but did not tell No. 11 because he did not see it as his drama and was focused on football.
- 2023 fallout: The post says this situation contributed to things starting to fall apart in the Eagles locker room during the 2023 season.
- After the 2023 season: The Eagles traded Reddick to the Jets despite him being a dominant double-digit sack defensive end who had helped them reach a Super Bowl.
- 2024 cap hit: The Eagles reportedly took a dead cap hit of around $21.515 million in 2024 after moving on from Reddick.
- No. 11’s reaction: According to the post, trading Reddick was not enough for No. 11, who allegedly still felt betrayed by what had happened.
- 2024 season: No. 11 was seen on the sideline reading books, which the post frames as part of a larger issue.
- Trade attempt: The post claims No. 11 thought he could act out and force a trade during the 2024 offseason.
- Howie’s position: The post says there was no way Howie Roseman was going to take that kind of cap hit at the time.
- Super Bowl win: The Eagles eventually won the Super Bowl.
- After the Super Bowl: According to the post, winning was not enough for No. 11 because he still felt embarrassed by what had happened the year before.
- Mental health angle: The post claims No. 11’s mental health struggles made it harder for him to move past the situation.
- End result: The post concludes that this is why No. 11 is no longer an Eagle.
While on-field production was always suspected to be the reason AJ Brown wanted out, there were also rumors that a woman was involved. We heard multiple media pundits hint at that this offseason. LeSean McCoy, Skip Bayless, and others all said something along the lines of, “I heard there was a woman involved.”
With that as the premise, the assumption was that Jalen Hurts was directly involved. Meaning, people thought he and AJ Brown were messing around with the same woman.
That part never made sense. Obviously, I do not know Hurts on a personal level. But from the outside looking in, it is pretty hard to see Hurts doing some shit like that. Anything is possible, of course, but it still never added up.
Now, with this new context, things are starting to fall into place. And honestly, who am I to say this is not true? If it is, this is really embarrassing for AJ Brown, for obvious reasons.
As they say, even the strongest men can be torn down by a woman. If these rumors are true, it appears AJ was torn down by a random woman he was banging.
As someone who fought against the anti-AJ Brown propaganda for years and threw shade at every reporter who said AJ wanted out, I almost have no choice but to believe this. Trading AJ Brown never made sense from either the Eagles’ or AJ’s perspective. The Eagles get worse by trading him. They signed him to an extension two years ago. AJ became the elite receiver we all know and love while playing in Philly. His best years came as an Eagle.
The whole “Jalen Hurts does not throw him the ball” bullshit was always just that. Bullshit. AJ is in the franchise record books. You do not get there as a receiver if your quarterback is not throwing you the ball.
It was always something we did not know about. Maybe this is not even the full story. Maybe there is something else we are still not being told. Who knows.
What I do know is that people can only keep their mouths shut about drama like this for so long. The tea leaves point to this being true, and until I get a better explanation for why AJ Brown wanted out of Philly, I am obliged to believe it.
