“Zero entitlement”: Jalen Hurts sends a message on Day 1 of Eagles camp
The Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown saga in Philadelphia came to an end this summer, but that doesn’t mean we’re finished writing about it. And believe me, I don’t want to write about it. But Hurts just had to go and say something that was obviously aimed at Brown, so here we are.
When asked about the team’s message this season, Hurts talked about what Nick Sirianni has been preaching and how he’s internalized it.
Jalen Hurts: “100% alignment. 0 entitlement”
According to everyone who was at the first day of camp on Wednesday, the vibes were immaculate. Is that because the cloud of A.J. Brown isn’t hanging over the building anymore? Probably a piece of the puzzle. A brand new offense under Sean Mannion helps, too.
It’s impossible to quantify the value of having all 53 men pushing in the same direction. Even one player pulling the other way can derail an entire season. Last season was a combination of things, and to be clear, it didn’t start with A.J. Brown. It started with Kevin Patullo and his braindead offense. Brown was a symptom, not the cause.
You can interpret Hurts’ message either way. It could’ve been aimed at A.J. It could’ve been aimed at Patullo. We’ve written about this all offseason, but if you follow the breadcrumbs, it’s pretty obvious who was leaking Jalen Hurts slander to reporters. Hard to coach. Hardheaded. All things a disgruntled coach would say.
Thankfully, none of that matters now. Patullo is long gone and so is A.J. The only direction is forward, with Jalen Hurts at the front of the pack.
