Eagles Training Camp: Makai Lemon is getting first-team reps, Eli Stowers still buried on the depth chart

We’re about a week into Eagles training camp and, by all accounts, things are going pretty well.

The offense is clearly trailing the defense, which is to be expected for a couple of reasons. One, it’s a completely new offense. And two, the Eagles have a generational defense with a generational defensive coordinator. The math adds up.

Per Zach Berman, the team is committed to getting rookie first-round receiver Makai Lemon involved in the offense. Whether that’s simply running routes and catching passes or motioning him into the backfield for gadget plays, the Birds want to utilize their new weapon any way they can.

Lemon is a baller, through and through. He’s the type of player you want involved in all facets of the offense. Screens, handoffs, jet sweeps — all of it is on the table, especially in year one.

On the flip side, we have Eli Stowers, the Eagles’ second-round pick this year.

Per Berman, he’s still buried on the depth chart behind Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, and others. That was to be expected. Stowers is a former quarterback who’s only played tight end for a year or two. He was always going to be a project, and we’re only a week into camp. He has time.

In two weeks, we’ll finally get to see the rookies in action in the first preseason game.
