The SEC wants to kick LSU out and somehow I’m rooting for Lane Kiffin and the Tigers

I’m not even an LSU fan. In fact, I chose to be a Tennessee Vols fan, but that’s a story for another day. Still, the SEC threatening to potentially kick LSU out of the conference is so ridiculous that I somehow find myself siding with the Tigers.

Look, we can all agree as much as we all love college football, this has all been a disaster. With that said, the SEC is seeking the authority to expel LSU from the conference as part of its ongoing legal battle with the school.

The issue stems from LSU’s decision to use players who previously signed NFL contracts after a Louisiana judge ruled in LSU’s favor regarding their eligibility.

NIL has turned recruiting into professional free agency. Coaches are making ridiculous amounts of money. We’re watching former professional football players potentially return to college. And this is where we turn out attention? Just one of the power house school’s in the conference? Okay.

Jayden Daniels Cannot Somehow Get The Last Laugh

This is where my lizard brain goes after I read this headline.

The whole thing felt like an unnecessarily massive saga over a freaking jersey number, with Jayden Daniels and his camp reportedly wanting No. 5 while LSU’s legendary No. 7 was sitting there as the number that actually matters.

Let’s be honest: No. 7 is the number at LSU.

That’s the number reserved for the absolute best of the best. Guys like Patrick Peterson, Tyrann Mathieu and Leonard Fournette wore it. It’s a prestigious LSU tradition.

But apparently that wasn’t enough.

There was also the whole Heisman situation, where Daniels wanted to have not just his Heisman Trophy but the copy of the trophy as well… Like, dude what the actual fuck is wrong with you?

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but the guy has always come across as a little too concerned with making sure he gets his.

And now, years later, LSU is caught in another ridiculous battle that somehow makes it feel like Daniels is getting the last laugh. I’m not saying Jayden Daniels personally caused any of this. I’m just saying the man has found a way to remain petty from a distance. What a loser.

Maybe focus on the Philadelphia Eagles on week 1? You know the team that owns you on the NFL stage.

Hate Lane Kiffin All You Want. The Guy Is a Competitor.

Now let’s get to Lane Kiffin. Look, haters gonna hate.

People are going to complain about the former NFL players, the comments, the antics, the recruiting, the trolling, the constant attempts to get under people’s skin. I honestly don’t care. Because at the end of the day, Lane Kiffin is a master competitor.

The guy is always looking for an edge. If he can find a loophole, he’s going to explore it. If he can get inside an opponent’s head, he’s going to do it. If he can turn a situation into an “us against the world” mentality for his team, he’s going to do it.

And you know what? I don’t blame him. That’s what competitors do.

You don’t have to like Kiffin. In fact, you’re probably supposed to hate him. That’s part of what makes him so damn good at this.

The leaked halftime speech against Clemson only made it more obvious. While LSU was already destroying Clemson, Kiffin was still finding a way to convince his players that everyone was against them. And boy, did it pay off. They shit pumped Dabo Swinney and his washed program. In fact, it had me wanting to run through a wall.

College Football Is a Mess, But We’re Still Watching

So, politics aside and personal feelings aside, I think we can all agree that college football is kind of a mess right now. We’re still going to watch it, though. You’re still going to tune in to LSU and Lane Kiffin every Saturday. Kicking LSU out of the SEC would only make an already messy situation even worse.

Besides, it’s time for the SEC to reestablish itself as the best conference in college football. And with all the Lane Kiffin and LSU hate I’ve been seeing, I’m only rooting harder for them to go win the whole damn thing this year.

Of course, that’s assuming my 18-year-old star quarterback-in-the-making, Faizon Brandon, can’t lead the Tennessee Volunteers all the way to the Natty first.
