Jalyx Hunt Eagles injury update

Jalyx Hunt says London injury is not as bad as feared, but there is no timetable for his return

Jalyx Hunt dodged the worst-case scenario, and the Eagles needed that after London.

Hunt spoke on 94WIP Tuesday about the injury he suffered Sunday against the Jaguars. His message, as relayed by Dave Zangaro: “It’s not as bad as they thought it was going to be.” There is still no current timetable for his return.

How Jalyx Hunt Got Hurt in London

The injury came on the final play of the first half. The Eagles stopped Jacksonville on fourth-and-goal from the 1 to protect a 14-7 lead, and Hunt’s leg got caught under the pile. He refused the cart, but he couldn’t put any weight on the leg as he left the field.

NBC Sports Philadelphia first listed the edge rusher as questionable to return with an ankle and knee injury. Inside The Birds’ Andrew DiCecco then reported Jalyx Hunt was downgraded to out. Arnold Ebiketie came in for him.

The Eagles went on to lose 19-17 on the Cam Little kick. That is three straight losses.

Eagles fans watched the replay of that leg and started bargaining with God.

What Jalyx Hunt Said on WIP

Hunt’s comments are the most useful information anyone has had since Sunday. The injury is less severe than the initial scare on the field, and nothing he said points to a season-ending injury.

He also gave no return date. No timetable means no guarantee he plays Week 6 against the Panthers. The Eagles aren’t promising anything, and neither is he.

The Eagles Can’t Afford to Lose Jalyx Hunt for Long

Jalyx Hunt led the Eagles in sacks (6.5) and interceptions (3) last season. Jonathan Greenard was already out for the Jaguars game with an ankle injury. Hunt played 63 snaps, 75%, against the Rams when Greenard left in the third quarter. Take Hunt away for an extended stretch and the pass rush runs out of bodies.

And the rest of the roster is no better. Saquon Barkley was out. DeVonta Smith was out. Landon Dickerson is on injured reserve. Lane Johnson retired.

Jalyx Hunt gave Eagles fans good news. Take it. There hasn’t been much.
