Michael Robinson acting like an idiot and accusing Jalen Hurts of faking a blood clot is a new low for sports media
Michael Robinson is an idiot and as we all know here in Philadelphia, this doesn’t happen to other quarterbacks. It happens to Jalen Hurts.
On Thursday, the Eagles announced Hurts would miss Sunday’s game against the Panthers with a superficial blood clot in his calf. Ian Rapoport later reported on “The Pat McAfee Show” that Hurts is out indefinitely, and Tanner McKee is expected to start against Carolina.
Any normal person hears “blood clot” and hopes the guy is OK.
NFL Network “analyst” Michael Robinson heard it and went on television to suggest Hurts might be using it to run away from a bad season.
If this were Patrick Mahomes, nobody on that set would have dared. If it were Josh Allen or Joe Burrow, the entire segment would have been about how scary blood clots are and how everyone’s praying for a quick recovery.
Nope, it’s Jalen Hurts, so of course the conversation turned into whether he’s faking it.
NFL Network “analyst” Michael Robinson on Jalen Hurts
Michael Robinson Admitted He Had Nothing:
I mean seriously, what are we even doing here? Michael Robinson, the former Seahawks fullback, opened his take on “NFL GameDay Kickoff” by admitting he had no inside information and saying he was just playing devil’s advocate.
When someone starts like that, you already know what’s coming out of his mouth is garbage, and he lived up to it.
His theory was that the Eagles have been collecting draft picks in recent trades, that the organization is tying this season to Hurts so it can justify moving on from him later, and that since Hurts’ guaranteed money runs out after 2027, he has every reason to protect himself.
Then he went all the way, saying that if he were in Jalen Hurts’ camp, the thinking would be “if everybody’s hurt, I’m hurt, too,” and that Hurts was pulling himself out of a lost season so it wouldn’t look like it’s on him.
He wrapped it up by claiming he wasn’t dismissing how serious a blood clot can be. For the idiots in the back, that’s like insulting someone and then saying “no offense.”
It’s National Television, Not a Burner Account:
This wasn’t some random podcast or an anonymous troll on X.
This was the NFL’s own network, on a pregame show, in the middle of the season. Michael Robinson isn’t an insider. He doesn’t have sources, and he said that himself. He has a microphone, a former-player title and a willingness to make something up about a man’s health because he knows the clip will travel.
That’s where sports media is now.
Networks hand ex-players “analyst” titles and pay them to manufacture outrage. There’s no reporting behind it and no consequences after it. Michael Robinson built a full conspiracy about a medical condition out of thin air, and he’ll be right back on that set next week like nothing happened.
The Facts Were Right There:
The worst part is that the real timeline was public before Michael Robinson ever opened his mouth. The Eagles laid it all out in a statement Thursday.
Jalen Hurts got cleated in the Oct. 4 loss to the Rams and asked for treatment on Oct. 8. A precautionary ultrasound in London found the clot on Oct. 10, the day before the Jaguars game. Doctors in London cleared him, the league office was kept informed, and Hurts played every snap against Jacksonville without any limitations.
He practiced in full on Wednesday. That night, a follow-up ultrasound showed the clot had moved, and the team ruled him out on Thursday while it figures out the right treatment.
Read that again. Hurts knew he had a blood clot before kickoff in London, and he played all four quarters anyway. He was on the field for every snap of all three losses Robinson claims he’s trying to escape.
The decision to sit him came from a scan and the team’s doctors, not from Hurts. A guy trying to hide from a bad season doesn’t knowingly play a full NFL game and then fly across the Atlantic with a clot in his leg.
Robinson either didn’t bother reading the statement or didn’t care what it said.
And the “lost season”? The Eagles have played five games. There are 12 left.
Even His One Good Point Works Against Him:
The only thing Robinson got right is that the Eagles are buried in injuries. They listed 24 players on Thursday’s report.
Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith are dealing with hamstring injuries, and Landon Dickerson has been on injured reserve with a knee bone bruise for all but one game this season. Most people look at that and see a roster falling apart physically. Robinson looked at it and decided the quarterback must be hopping on the injury report for cover.
This Is the Jalen Hurts Tax:
Robert Griffin III shut it down fast on X, calling the take ridiculous and saying the negative narratives around Hurts need to stop.
He’s right, and the key word is narratives, plural. This isn’t new.
Hurts has been paying a tax his entire career that no other quarterback of his caliber pays. They said he couldn’t throw. They said he was a running back playing quarterback.
They said he was a system guy, a game manager, a product of his supporting cast. He answered every single one of those with wins, a Super Bowl ring and a franchise that’s built around him. Every time he answers one, the media just invents the next one. Now it’s his blood clot.
Again, Michael Robinson is an idiot.
The Eagles haven’t given a timetable for Hurts’ return, and they shouldn’t rush one. A moving blood clot isn’t something you play through to prove a point to a guy on a pregame show. Whenever Hurts is back, he doesn’t owe Robinson or anyone else an explanation.
Robinson owes him an apology.
NFL Network owes its viewers better and the rest of the national media needs to figure out why it can’t give Jalen Hurts the same basic decency it gives every other star quarterback in this league.
